One of the big advantages of the Texas CHL is that you get to bypass the NICS check when you buy a new gun. Of course, there is always the FTF option that negates NICS, as well.

I am also very interested in the Utah class. I am about a year away from Texas CHL renewal and I am concerned about processing time. Utah would make a nice back up in case there is a delay.

That Utah license would have been nice to have when I was stuck in Ohio for two weeks last month. Maybe next year by this time Ohio will have reciprocity with Texas, but maybe not.

I'd be interested in a Utah class here.

My son and I are interested in the class. Please keep us all advised.

I took Charles's class May 31, mailed my packet to Utah June 4, and had my Utah CFP in hand August 10. Not only do I pick up a few extra states for reciprocity, but the Utah license expiration date overlaps my CHL by two years. That could be handy in the event of any unforeseen renewal delays or confusion.

Somebody else here gave me the notion: my Utah license stays secured in my gun vault. It's at hand if need to travel to one of those other states, but perhaps more significantly, if something should ever happen to my wallet--theft, loss, destruction, whatever--my backup plastic is immediately available at home in the safe. I can contact DPS and get a replacement for my CHL in the works, but I'm immediately legal back on the streets with my Utah CFP.

It's a win-win proposition.

I don't really have a minimum number, but it's hard to create a true class atmosphere with only 2 or 3 people. It's more like a couple of guys sitting around and visiting and it's been my experience that this just doesn't work well. I can't just go through the motions and hand out certificates; I want my students to leave any of my classes feeling like they really learned both the law and how things work in the real world. (I'm not saying you are suggesting otherwise.)

We have plenty of people here that want to take the Utah class, so I'll try to get it on the schedule in the next 2 weeks. It may have to be on a week night because of scheduling, but I'll try to make it a Friday.

I'm in for the class. Just don't make on Aug. 28 as that is the Texans preseason game.
