Chili's Manager Shot to Death by Disgruntled Customer

According to news reports, a regular customer at a Chili's restaurant in Houston was asked to leave the establishment after making unwelcome advances toward a female employee. The subject reportedly returned later and shot the manager to death as he escorted a female employee to her vehicle.

The subject returned to the scene a short time later driving the same vehicle he departed in, and was arrested.

Currently working in a restaurant, I think about this kind of thing all the time. We see some real loons! Unfortunately carrying at work isn't really an option for a server...too much running into people, and walking for 6-8 hours.

Of course, if he were convicted he still could be on the streets. This is still one of my pet peeves when people want to give leniency to criminals with a long history of crime, just because they commit "non-violent" crimes.

Smartcarry and a small gun. I carry a Taurus 605 .357 and a speed strip in mine with no visibility issues, and if you're bumping people with that, you need to find a better restaurant.

Every time this kind of thing happens in Houston, I can't help but recall when three guys circa 1980 walked into the Denny's on I-45 North south of the airport and in broad daylight no less shot and killed seven people inside during a robbery. I had previously "dined" there several times. Makes me want to eat with one finger on a fork and the other on a trigger. I had left Houston by the time of this incident, and for various reasons never returned except to pass through on occasion. The string of restaurant and other shootings in Bayou City a.k.a. The Dome has been voluminous over the years, to say the least. I stay in touch daily via the Chronicle online. Hard to miss the violence. I'm even considering a return, of sorts, to the waters of the San Jacinto River at Humble, since my son is now an attorney practicing downtown. I left a lot of catfish and white perch intact there thirty years ago. Time to upset the balance of nature again.

I was referring the crimes for which he was actually convicted - disregarding a peace officer and misdemeanor drug possession.

I've seen several servers and restaraunt managers with fanny packs on their bodies with their wallets visible in their back pockets.

There's no way I would work in a restaraunt and not be armed. Especially if I was on the shift that closed or opened.

Just saw on the six o'clock news that the VCA, Michael Hare, is being represented by high-profile attorney Dick DeGuerin. I'd have to imagine that will take require some serious coin.

But then, maybe Hare will be able to save some on bail: his bond is only $50,000...

May be this guy does have significant funds available. His bail is only $50k, which would seem to indicate a low flight risk. Last I checked, DeGuerin's criminal defense services weren't cheap. And another indicator, to me at least, is the widow of the deceased has already filled a wrongful death suit.

How does DeGuerin know it's a "fine" family? Or does that just translate to RICH? And what does that have to do with the crime for which his client has been accused? Robert Durst was from a "fine" family too...Doesn't change the fact Durst killed someone, proceeded to chop the body up into pieces, then dispose of it in Galveston bay to cover up the incident. Oh wait, Durst walked didn't he?...Yup, another "fine" family. Please disregard...My blood sugar must be getting low or something.

I think if the suspect's family were rich, he wouldn't be sitting in jail while the Crips and Bloods fought over who got first dibs.
