Governor Perry was urging the Legislature to do just that right after the Virginia tech shooting. Wish they would go ahead and do it. However, I don't forsee this applying to private businesses as Property Rights are fundamental to a free society as much as the RTKBA is.eric wrote:I wunder if the texas legislature is working on laws to stop this nonsense about prohibited places chl holders can carry. The best i can figure is that the people who make these rules for their company are restricted from conceal carry because of felony convictions or other. Why else would they do it?

Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
Well, since my last posting on this topic, the AMC in Highland Village, TX is now posted with the appropriate 30.06 sign on both entrances, rather than the aforementioned "gunbusters" sign. The signs are posted in the bottom corners of the doors in black lettering on white backgrounds. I wasn't going to bend down and measure the lettering, but it appeared to in line with the regs.camjr wrote:I was there last night. No compliant 30.06 sign -- only a small 6" square "gunbusters" sign on the bottom of each door (I had to look hard just to see it). Me, my wife, and the IWB XD40 enjoyed the movie.Greybeard wrote:This thread got me curious to see if brand spanking new AMC at FM 2499 and FM 407 in Flower Mound is posted, so I dropped by there yesterday morning when it was closed. From looking at and in the windows, I saw no gun-related signage whatsoever.
But that still does not make me think we need to run down there some evening and shell out $8.00 per head for the latest and greatest flick ...
Cheers!
Oh well, it was a nice theater for a while, but it appears it's back to the old standbys that don't bar the safest, most law abiding citizens out there.
Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
If it appears that a regular sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 paper will cover it then it's too small. I noticed the one at Irving mall when I saw Iron Man. I went again last week with my hawk eyed son and asked his opinion. Concerning lettering size he said no way the letters are maybe 1/2 inch.

Re: Barton Creek Mall Cinema in Austin--non-compliant sign
I was in the mall over lunch and looked for the signs. Since I did not remember where they were supposed to be, I looked in all the box office windows and on all doors on both sides of the box office. Either they have taken them down or they were just too small for me to notice even though I was looking for them. Anyone know if they've actually taken them down, or I just missed them?CWOOD wrote:After reading this, I went to check the only AMC theatre in Austin, which is inside Barton Creek Mall..
There was wording which appeared to be proper but the sign was the size of a piece of notebook paper and was posted at the botton of two doors, one on each side of the box office. The sign were below knee level. At best the lettering was half to required size. I would ignore them and if ever confronted my response would be that if the signs were the proper size they would be much more conspicuous.
My feeling, is that a company the size of AMC obviously has staff attorneys who could provide them with all of the particulars about making a valid sign, in the same Penal Code section where they got the wording. They either have incompetant attorneys or they have made a concious decision to refrain from making them compliant. I think it is a bluff. They want you to not carry. But they want to be protected from liability if you don't carry and end getting assaulted on their property. They can then say, "Hey, the sign was non-compliant, so we didn't force the CHL'er to disarm...that was his choice. Don't sue me!"
Just my thoughts. Iguess I am a cynic.

I went and saw Wanted today at amc 24 in San Antonio and this was the sign. I didn't measure it, but i don't believe the letters were big enough. i almost missed it but my wife pointed it out. What do you guys think. Legal?
nevermind, i couldn't upload the image. anyways it was very small and inconspicuous.

Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
It it isn't big enough, it doesn't spell it right, doesn't use the correct punctuation, doesn't have the correct color/contrast, isn't in English and Spanish, or isn't posted so that you will see it then it doesn't count. The only one that gets any leeway is the latter, but it has to be either on the door I use or central (like over a lunch counter) so I can't avoid it (never saw one of those) then it is NOT a "30.06 sign" but some irrelevant facsimile or irrelevant substitution.ed3eclipse wrote:6-27-08

I will NOT cross the threshold of a valid 30.06 sign, except under duress, i.e., no viable alternative. The other signs are meaningless and must be intended to comfort the sheeple.
Never ask for clarification since verbal notice DOES count for you then even if they don't fix the sign.
Suggestion: Measure your hand so that you can also determine an inch, a centimeter, and other useful measurements, e.g, 3 feet to your belt line, 4 feet to your diaphragm, or whatever is true for you. (I used to be a commercial diver, hard hat, and it was considered de rigueur to know such measurements -- you can't always surface to get a tape measure. )

The sign is not big enough to be legal though.dac1842 wrote:AMC AT DEERBROOK MALL IN HUMBLE IS POSTED. USED TO HAVE ONLY A GHOSTBUSTER SIGN, NOW AS THE 30,06 SIGN UP. LAST TIME FOR ME.

Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
I know I must be out of my mind, and should be certified as dumber than a bag of hammers...
But, that's beside the point...
Since we do not have to patronize this business anymore, how clever it would be to communicate our side of the issue by somehow leaving our "I see your 30.06 posting and respect your wishes" business cards wedged right in the crease of the sign and the window of where they post the dubiously questionable 30.06 postings on the entrances of their theater...
And walk right back out...
Obviously, we have been informed (by the owner) per the law, and their intent is clear, even though their posting of the signs technically are not within the parameters of the law (that we know better than them anyway)...
I know I struggled with the issue for a long time, till I figured out the intent is all they need to make your life miserable if you are somehow caught...But that is niether here nor there...
I already told my brother if he wants to give us another Christmas "gift card" for the movies...Make sure it is not AMC...
I have nothing but respect for those struggling with this issue...And maybe my suggestion is reckless and meaningless...
Symbology seems to work for those who oppose us, why should we not consider symbolically responding to their policy...
But what do I know...I am only a harmless guy who wears too many Hawaiian shirts, and keeps his right hand clear at all times...

Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
a legal/valid 30.06 sign is not a small sign. The AMC 30 at Grapevine MIlls Mall recently posted very small 30.06 signs in the bottom corners of a few doors. Its like AMC went out of its way to make the signs hard to see.
Re: ALERT: AMC Theaters have posted 30.06
I went to the Dunvale AMC last night for the 1215 movie (GF gets off work at midnight). They are "posted" on the very bottom right of a few doors with a 8x11 sign that is no where near compliant. As a check i asked the GF if she saw any signs and she said no after looking around. i barely noticed them and she didnt see them at all. Doesnt seem even remotely valid to me. Werent as many thugs there as i would have thought but had a hicap .45 anyway.

A dollar bill is 6" long... A US Quarter is an inch in diameter. There are two handy measurements that most everyone has in their pocket at all times.HerbM wrote:Suggestion: Measure your hand so that you can also determine an inch, a centimeter, and other useful measurements, e.g, 3 feet to your belt line, 4 feet to your diaphragm, or whatever is true for you. Just finished seeing Hancock at the Irving Mall AMC. The sign is still too small.

No big problem for me. Hollywood, as a whole, shows no respect for my rights and I don't contribute to their pockets.
