C-TAC Broke- Anyone Else ?

#1

Post by Piney »

Greetings--

C-TAC is about 2 yrs old. Its been worn almost daily since purchasing it.

The sweat shield broke the other day. It just snapped off while I was wearing it. *shrugs*. I ground the remains of the piece down and still use the holster.

Anyone else have a piece of their CompTac or another kydex holster break in what seems ( to me) a short time ?

I know 1 other person who had something similar happen to him - the company took care of him.

He had the paddle break off after a few years use (probably put it on/took it off over 1500 times) and the paddle broke. He wanted to buy a new one and it was given to him for free instead.

Now THAT is great service.

Best customer service I've ever encountered. I wouldn't be suprised if you have a new holster by Saturday.

I had one of the old model "Undercover" that had the molded on clips. It broke & they made it good for me too by sending a new one. I purchased the Gurkha strut to go on it.
I saw great CS too.

BTW - I get all my peper from them too. Close. Fox OC. Fast delivery. Home town folks.

Greetings--

Thanks to all the folks replying.
I have heard on numerous occasions that CompTac stood behind their products.

I called and spoke with two staff there about my broken holster. I was informed that 1) it was "out of warranty"
2) They would not replace it
3) I could buy just the holster w/o the clips and pay a 10% discounted price plus shipping.

Hummmm......

Updates IF they occur

When mine broke (does this sound like a common occurance?) I called them because I could not find the same model on their web site or anywhere else, and I liked that model, it was old. I had every intention of buying a new one as the old one had seen a lot of service. I initially asked if they had just the part to sell, so I could fix it. They told me that the old model had indeed been discontinued, they wouldn't sell me a part, even if I could convince them I was technically competent to replace it myself, and that they didn't have a comparable model.

I bought a DeSantis.

I have had a similar non stellar experience with Comp Tac as well. They don't run things the way they used to.

Positive Experience:

I just bought an infidel holster from them and messed up in the ordering and accidentally ordered 3 somehow at 80$ a piece. Well I called them and within about 20 seconds I was talking to a real live human who transfered me to the correct department who picked up almost instantly. They were really nice and took care of my problem quickly. I prob. spent maybe 5 minutes on the phone with them.

I can't wait to see how my holster works out, it may be cheap but I took a temporary vow of poverty and its all I could afford lol.

Just to chime in that I have six Comp-Tac holsters, four double-mag carriers, a shotshell holder, and a belt. Oh, and one of their caps. ;-)

Good stuff, good prices, and good company...IMHO.

Piney, IMO your holster is better off without the sweatshield.

I first tried one of Comp-Tac's OWB holsters and it did not fit my gun and it printed ridiculously, and I did not/do not like their standard belt clips. Later I tried their (IWB) CTAC holster; I really like the flexible belt attachment, but specifically ordered some slightly different belt clips that require threading the belt through the clips (no easy-off way of dumping the holster). This holster's sweatshield also chafed my thumb, so I used a Dremel to cut most of it away. Cutting off the sweatshield also better accommodates the specific type of grip acquisition I have been taught/learned.

In brief: in my experience, Comp-Tac has good customer service and good products, and offer a small degree of flexibility in design, but seems reluctant to pursue anything far removed from their own ideas.

I had a Sidearmor holster whose belt clip was poorly designed and cracked prematurely (within 3 months). I had to wait over a month before they finally sent a replacement belt clip. On top of that, the sweatshield attachment constantly chafed my thumb.

The best quality Kydex work I have seen anywhere is from a pastor in Montana who makes the "Ehud" A-IWB holsters for Gabe Suarez's organization. I have never seen any Kydex from anyone that was as well-finished or fit as well as this guy's; this was the first Kydex holster I bought whose sweatshield did not chafe my thumb. However, his products are more expensive than Comp-Tac's and he is further away, but other than that it was a pleasure to do business with him.

For me, Comp-Tac's products can get the job done---sometimes with a little help from my Dremel.

I have several of their product that I love.

C-Tac
Locking paddle
2 speed paddles
belt holster
2 dbl mag holders
3 single mag holders

and I have plans (in the near future) to buy the M-Tac.
When i find a product that works for me, I stick with it.

I recently bought an MTac for my Kimber Pro CDP (thanks again, Allen). In addition, I went ahead and ordered one of their Kydex-reinforced belts. The belt I ordered is too long (my fault), so I drilled a couple o' extra holes in it. it fits pretty decently now, and the holster, itself, absolutely rules. I have adjusted it so the cant and grip level is perfect, for me. mine came with the regular clips, and I have been pleased well enough with them. I'm sure the other clips are cool, but I am perfectly fine with the regular ones, for the time being. I think the leather "shield" against the skin is perfect for my purposes, and looks to be well done.
everyone I have spoken to (email) there is very professional, and they even through in a couple packages of Smarties, you know, to "sweeten" the deal
anyway, I personally recommend them, and hope others have as good an experience as I have.
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
