Re: "Waiting Room"
Just got the return receipt card back in the mail. That will probably be the shortest part of the waiting process for me.

Re: "Waiting Room"
When I took the course I was told 60 business days which would make me think 3 months is normal. What surprises me is by how many people that mad and they have only sent their information in a few weeks ago. Makes we wonder why they didn't take the course years ago.getusumtx wrote:I have a question,When everyone is quoting there wait times..are we counting weekends or just business days?
I have been using the waiting period to save a little money and research for a new side arm and holster.

Re: "Waiting Room"
The law says "days," not business days. The law sometimes specifies business days, so in this case I think it means calendar days, regardless of weekends and holidays.ProudNativeTexican wrote:When I took the course I was told 60 business days which would make me think 3 months is normal.
Not that that does anyone any good.
It's human nature, like people who file their income tax return on April 15 and then complain about how long it takes for the refund to arrive.ProudNativeTexican wrote:What surprises me is by how many people that mad and they have only sent their information in a few weeks ago. Re: "Waiting Room"
Hi! I have been doing a lot of reading on this Forum and thought that I should add some comments, military requirements and my CHL time lines. Please let me know if my time lines seems to be about the same for you all too...esp. new applicants.
CHL Timelines:
Jan 28, 2008 Signed up at TXDPS Online for CHL Application and CHL Class with Lonestar Handguns (Bass Pro Shop-SATX)
http://www.lonestarhandgun.com
Feb 02, 2008 Received CHL package and PIN number from TXDPS
Mar 01, 2008 Class completed at Bass Pro Shop (Recommend taking a CHL class where all processes are completed at one
location. Ex: Class, Paperwork, Fingerprinting, Photos, Notorary Service, Range Shooting)
Mar 03, 2008 Mail CHL package.
Mar 05, 2008 TXDPS Receives package. Clock Starts Here???
Apr 23, 2008 (Day-49)Got an email notification from Mr. Galvan, TXDPS CHLB, that I had failed to provide necessary information in regards to active duty military application. In order for the military or retiree to obtain a free or reduced price special conditions, we must provide additional documents. (See below) I was able to scan/convert documents electronically and email them back same day. Therefore I save a few day for postage time and $$! Furthermore, Mr. Galvan also told me that it should not be too much longer, maybe a couple of weeks and I should have plastic in hand!
NOTE: Active Duty or Retired Military read this, you must provide the following items when you submit your CHL application: (Even though this requirements are NOT identified in the CHL Handbook or the TXDPS website). The TXDPS CHLB relies on CHL instructors to verbally brief/forward these requirements to military population when teaching class. I did go back to the Lonestar Handgun Checklist an noted that it did id these requirements, however I went by the CHL Checklist that was mailed to me with my online package. "My Bad"...I guess! Take this as a lesson learned on my part. I did some research and found out that other military members did the same thing and fail to provide these requirements. Therefore, took some initiative and send a formal letter via online to the TXDPS CHLB to address this requirements and the need to update their "FAQ" on the TXDPS CHL website, CHL Application Checklist, and CHL Handbook. Another note, this reduced price (retirees) or free (active duty) just passed into law Sept 2007. TXDPS response was they know it is a problem and are working on it.
(1) Copy of your military ID (Active or Retired)
(2) A copy of one the following item: current leave and earnings statement, current military orders, current pay stub, or a letter from your Commanding Officer, and for retiree (Copy of DD-Form 214)
(3) A copy of your military pistol qualification scores within the last five years (Not needed if you are going to qualify with a CHL Instructor and range)
Apr 24, 2008 (Day-50) Status changed today from "Application mailed to applicant" to "Processing Application"
Current Status- Still waiting: "Processing Application"

Re: "Waiting Room"
Hmmm. CHL phone lines are down. Maybe they turned off the phones to speed up on processing some applications.
I am on day 118...yes.. 118 days since I mailed in my packet.

Re: "Waiting Room"
Wow. I thought my 100+ days since mailing was getting way up there. Did you have an issue with the application to correct in that time? If so, I believe that the day count starts over (for DPS).Ultamatule wrote: I am on day 118...yes.. 118 days since I mailed in my packet.
I just today see "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". This is at 104 days from mailing the app (no issues), and 94 days since DPS cashed the money order.
I'm glad that I no longer have to check status daily! Good luck to all of those waiting, many know how it feels.
Jan 12 - Completed the CHL course.
Jan 15 - Application in the mail.
Jan 25 - Money Order cashed
March 14 - PIN received
As of April 28, "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"

Re: "Waiting Room"
Application Mailed: 2-26-08
Check Cleared: 3-7-08
As of today: NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This Wednesday will be 60 + days and I havent received a single thing! No PIN number, no letter saying sorry we hate you and you arent getting a CHL, no communication whatsoever. I emailed them and I get the generic "Your application is likely in the process of being entered into our system BLAH BLAH!!!!
This is getting ridiculous. I tried to get an explanation of why it is taking so long and no one can tell me. I just want my $140 back at this point.

Welcome to the waiting room.
Pull up a chair, a drink, and good book, you're gonna be here a while. I don't think it's Hades, but there is a fair amount of wailing and gnashing of teeth here.
Misery does love company though.

Re: "Waiting Room"
I just heard on KLIF this morning that CHL requests are up 40% this year. They asked if it was due to new gun laws in TX or the upcoming election. I have a feeling it might be partly due to the later, I know I want to be ready if the tank of Socialism comes rolling up to McKinney!

Re: "Waiting Room"
Hi Fellow Waiting Room Members,
UPDATE: Looks like my status changed this morning after emailing TXDPS CHL folks yesterday to ask about my status. Status: "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"
CHL Timelines:
Jan 28, 2008-Signed up online TXDPS CHL Application and CHL Class with Lonestar Handguns (Bass Pro Shop-SATX)

May 12, 2008-(Day 69) Emailed Mr. Galvan to inquire about my status and he responded back with ""I was able to issue your license this morning. It is in the mail. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance." His response came back almost immediately, is that cool or what? Maybe that was just a fluke that my CHL was just laying around on his desk and my email had prompted him to "Put it in the envelope and mail it out! Anyways I am just as happy!
May 13, 2008-(Day 70) Status online changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active"
Current Status- Still waiting: "Waiting on Plastic, from Austin to San Antonio! Should be in by Wednesday?"
