Utah waiting room

#1

Post by tvone »

Took the Utah class on Saturday, March 15th, 2008.

Packet mailed on Monday, March 17th, 2008.*

Packet delivered on March 20, 2008.

* Packet goes to Utah's Bureau of Criminal Identification...got a funny look from the post office worker. Sent it priority with confirmation. It needed to have a return address on it. The worker goes "It's alright man, you don't have to put your name on the envelope, just an address". Bet he thought I was a felon. :???:

Well, not much of a move, but I noticed my credit card has a pending transaction from the BCI.

Only 48 days to go.

Took the Utah on 3/29, added to the TX class.

Mailed both packets on Sunday, 3/30, so the race is on between TX & UT - we'll see which comes in first (assuming no problems with the TX app.)

Mailed mine from my apartment office almost 2 months ago. No transactions on my credit card from BCI.

I was dumb and didn't take it to the post office and send it with any type of confirmation. Just left it in the out box at my apartment office. I'm very worried now that it's lost in the mail, or worse. :banghead:

Use this as a lesson to everyone - take the packet to the post office and send it certified or some other way that you can verify it's been received.

----Update: Just (Apr 4) called the Utah BCI and they confirmed receipt of my application. They received it on Feb 21 and are currently working on applications received Feb 9. She said it would be about 30 more days before they get to my application. I'm just relieved they have it and it wasn't lost.

Excellent advice! It's worth the extra cost for the added peace of mind that comes from knowing that your material was received on a specific date.

UPDATE - 4/7/08:
Haven't received the return receipts for either of these yet (?), but USPS tracking shows:
• TX DPS - Your item was delivered at 8:24 AM on March 31, 2008 in AUSTIN, TX 78773. The item was signed for by J RODRIGUEZ.
• UT BCI - Delivered, April 03, 2008, 12:02 pm, SALT LAKE CITY, UT 84118

So does their countdown clock start when they begin processing your application or when it was received/ You hear different things on different boards.

My understanding from talking to the lady there was the clock starts when it's received, but she also told me they're a little behind. I'm also not sure if the 60 day statutory limit is for in-state applications only or if it also applies to out of state.

Mine was received on Feb 24th. She told me it would likely be another 1 1/2 weeks until they got to out of state applications received on the 24th, and I should have my card in 2 weeks.

UPDATE: BCI charged the card on 4/14. Texas CHL tracking page now says processing.

BTW, I'm not finding the link on the BCI website to track the status of my application. Anyone have it?
