Never again: send gun to business without checking the BBB
I sent my Glock 36 off to S.K. Industries in Anehiem, Ca for a LAW-17 laser site installation. This was five weeks ago. My check was cashed three weeks ago. Now they have not answered any of my calls or e-mail and their fax machine won't pick up.
Here is the link to the BBB for this vendor. http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Busin ... 175597&sm=
I found this his morning. http://e-gun.com/detail.php?id=22888 It appears i am not the only one.
Please be cautious if you are considering this vendor.

I can understand that. I've been lurking around here for quite a while and wanted to give you all a heads up. It's your choice if you want to heed the warning.txinvestigator wrote:I am highly suspicious of people who sign up for a message board and make their first post one of "warning"
You can see my posts on GlockTalk if that adds any credibility.

What would add credibility is signing up, introducing yourself, asking questions, rsponding to posts, etc., before slamming a company.G36Packer wrote:I can understand that. Update:
I still don't have my frame back. Last week I turned all the information to the US Postal Inspectors. The Postmaster thinks we have a good case.
S.K. Industries did not respond to the BBB, my letter, e-mail or phone calls, so they forced me to take it the next step.
I sent the BATF "Interstate Firearms Shipment Theft/Loss Report" in today.
Next step is the California AG.

Thanks for the warning.
G36. I can't imagine how P..... off I would be if someone stole one of my guns under false pretenses like that. This guy should be put out of business. A forum like this is our best way of communicating this kind of fraud. I'll forward your post to other forums as well. Good luck, hope you get your baby back.

Thanks, jbenat and Rich.
I sure hope they make it right. I've heard good things about the LAW-17. I will post the results if they do.
A thread like this would have made a difference when I was looking at the LAW-17. Hopefully this thread will remind others to check out unfamiliar vendors thoroughly. I thought I did, but I forgot the BBB.

Possible progress
A nice lady at the BATF called me today. The BATF only takes stolen firearms reports from FFL holders but she gave me some suggestions.
My local Sheriff's office was able to talk to Steve Kelley on the phone today. Steve told them he would get my frame back to me and he would call me this afternoon. I am cautiously optimistic.

I carried a Commander to a local shop that came with excellent references. They have had my Commander since January and when I called to check on it last week they were very rude and acted liked I had committed the unpardonable sin. I hope I get my pistol back and it will never go there again. I never thought about the BBB because these guys even do special work for the govt. Lesson learned. Good luck on getting your gun back.

Rich wrote Hope this story has a happy ending. I don't see that. It may have an ending that is not a gun loss which is tragic & terribly expensive. I have had one similar dealing (not gun) that will never be happy to remember & never want to HAVE TO DO again to get property back. Keep us posted on all updates. The info on BATF & good word on the SO helping has all been filed in the permanent memory bank here under the file of "hope I never need it".
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Update:
The BBB got no response (see the letter they sent me below). Meanwhile S.K. Industries has not responded to the Sheriff's request either. The Postal Inspectors received the packet 3/16/2006.

Re: Possible progress
Another reason that organization is irrelevant to anything it perceives as its responsibility to enforce...G36Packer wrote:A nice lady at the BATF called me today. The BATF only takes stolen firearms reports from FFL holders but she gave me some suggestions.

So in their opinion, if a firearm is not returned to an owner from a business that has been requested to return said firearm, the BATF will only pursue that if you are an FFL dealer, and not a private citizen???
hmmmm...
I really hope you get "all" of your firearm returned to you...

I complained to the BBB about a company that tried to pull a bait and switch on me.
The BBB wrote to them and they called me and offered the original deal, but in a manner that suggested that I was being unreasonable to force them to do so.
Then they reported to the BBB that the situation had been resolved to MY satisfaction.
Then they called me back and rescinded the offer because I was so nasty as to call the BBB and they did not want to do business with nasty people like me.
The BBB listed the complaint as resolved and no amount of further complaint will get them to change that.
Just don't trust the BBB.
