I just left the McKinney (Uptown) Cafe Express and there were no signs at all. I checked every entrance.

From what I got out of the TABC agent. The incorrect signs were removed and he gave the manager a six new ones and "recommended" the manager put them on the front window or door.

I guess I'll be eating somewhere else for lunch once they put the proper signs in place.

jn, you're misunderstanding what has happened. Doug got the incorrect 51% signs, which would bar CHL carry, removed to be replaced with the proper "The unlicensed carry......." signs, which do NOT bar CHL carry.

Ok, so it sounds like the signs posted at Chili's........which is actually in our favor. In other words, no license, no carry.

.....which now begs the question.........

Isn't a sign like that just common sense? It's already state law that you cannot carry a gun without a license (obviously).
I wonder why they feel the need to post it in the first place. Secondly, if someone is going to carry illegally, why would
a sign stop them?

Oh well, we'll never get answers to questions like this. At least I'll be able to carry in Cafe Express as a licensed gun owner.

Carrying a handgun without a license is normally a misdemeanor. In a place that sells alcohol, it's a felony. The sign serves as notice so that someone who is caught cannot plead ignorance of the fact that the place sells alcohol.

It's also perfectly legal to walk around with a rifle or shotgun, though obviously few people do it. That also becomes a felony if the person goes into a place that sells alcohol.
