Sportsman Outlet - Humble
Does anyone know when they are going to reopen? I heard the range is functional for leo training but nothing has started on the remainder of the store.
Re: Sportsman Outlet - Humble
I have their phone from an old business card and called there last week and they said in a couple
of months they would be open .
One day this week I might take a run out there to see what is happening if anything.

Re: Sportsman Outlet - Humble
I drove by there late last week and there were a few workers actually working on the building.
So who knows.

Re: Sportsman Outlet - Humble
Any updates on their rebuild progress?
Thanks!

Re: Sportsman Outlet - Humble
I stopped by there about two weeks ago and asked some of the LEO who were taking a break from training. They said it was scheduled to be up and running in Feb/March. Supposedly the building materials had been ordered but not received yet.
Don't know how accurate this information is, but it's the first time I have spoken to somebody who was physically on-site. They have the range open for LEO training, but it's pretty bare bones...targets on easels and folding table/chairs for the administrative stuff.

My CHL instructor was teaching classes there before the fire. He told me Feb 9th that they plan to be back up & running in 2-3 months.

Re: Sportsman Outlet - Humble
I drove by there again last weekend and there is still no construction going on that I can see. I am bummed because I really liked the place and it seems like maybe this could just drag on for a while. (every time someone hears something, it has been "just another month or two") I also haven't been out to a pistol range since just before the fire (shame on me).
Can anyone recommend another place up close to the Humble area with a nice indoor range similar to Sportsman's ?
Thanks

59 Gun Range is fairly close, but the facilities there are pretty poor compared to what Sportsman's was. Shiloh is about the same quality as Sportsman's was, but it's quite a bit further away, at least for me.

I spoke with the folks at Sportmans last week, they say late spring on re -opening.

Now they're saying "sometime this summer." Apparently they've been waiting on permit approval from Harris County since December.

Thought you guys might appreciate hearing that construction looks like it has made some substantial progress and may not be far off from being ready for sheetrock. I took some photos today but I haven't gotten Gary Lee's permission to show them. Personally, even if it takes another month or two, it looks like the pro shop will be well worth the wait. Today was the first time I've been there since it burned. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that the concrete structure of the range itself was all that survived the fire. The bottom line is it looks like the new shop and classroom facilities will significantly improved.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.

Funny, I just checked in here today to see if there were any new posts before I emailed Gary to find out if there was any new status. My wife drove by a week ago and said the parking lot had several vehicles in it to the point that it almost appeared that he had finally re-opened. Sounds like it was a burst of construction instead.
Please keep us up to date on any news. It's been a long year and a half wait so far.
