Not sure this is the correct area to post this.
The real question is, what will the next guy be like?

From the article:

"Although I have enjoyed excellent medical and pharmacological treatment, I have come to learn that the particular combination of drugs prescribed for me in the past has caused some impairment in my judgment," Rosenthal wrote in his resignation letter.

I'm no lawyer, but I would have to believe that statements going to be included in a few thousand appeals filed in the not to distant future...can't believe he'd say something like that in an official communication.

Hopefully his successor will have a more enlightened attitude about following state law re guns in vehicles.

I wish him well. He appeared not to have been our friend but, still, I wish him well.

Man, I thought this thread would be an explosion of well-wishers (1), and a bunch of us who wished that the fleas of a thousand camels would infest his armpits, as the door closed in behind him... ;-)

Just remember, when I first became a rabid Second Amendment, gun-toating, instigator of hate and discontent, the one basic principle that I held elected officials and candidates to in regards to my stellar qualities was this...

"How can I trust a politician to do the right and proper thing while in office, if they simply do not trust me with my gun(s)?"

Its just a really simple litmus test that does say a lot about a person...

Technically the reasoning behind his resignation and downfall had nothing to do with his stance on guns.

Realistically it had everything to do with it.

1st his stance on guns showcased a personality flaw. Chuck Rosenthal proved by his stance on guns that he was a hypocrite and that rules were not to be applied as they are written down, but Chuck saw fit to apply them. Chuckie lost a whole lot of support and respect with his stance on the traveling law. Prior to Chuck's announcement that he would not respect the new traveling laws 0f 2005, Chuck was pretty well respected in the community and was considered one of Harris County's most respected Republicans. Chuck had managed to get the TSRA and the UCLA to unite. This is no small feat. The new car carry law was a slap in the face for him. He quickly found he had lost any support that he once had.

Chuck probably could have run out the current current scandal, but as he found out no one was ever willing to go to bat for him. The entire Republican party turned their back on him. His ant-igun gun position had already alienated anyone who had any respect for the rule of law. Those who live in this area might have noticed that there was a strange lack of support for this guy in the media, there was hardly anyone left to defend him.

I hope other politicians learn from this experiance.
