tell or not to tell

I don't tell strangers, but I'm on a mission to get as many women armed and in control of their destiny as I possibly can. Given the fact that women are twice as likely as men to be attacked and comprise such a tiny number of CHL holders, it's a big job, but the pond is FULL of fish! So, far there are two converts from my church and several more from my political women's organization. In just a couple of months, that's something! We all have found out that punching holes in paper targets with bullets is a hoot!!!

So, tell or don't tell? My answer is an unequivocal ... sometimes.

Same here. I find, however, that some women are very afraid of guns. It bothers me, as women are more likely to need one.

I have kept a policy of not broadcasting my carrying, but not worrying too much about it if somebody figures it out. My brother knew when I first bought my gun but I never specifically told him I had my CHL, though we talk about related issues a lot. I knew he had figured it out when I drove him to a less-than-savory neighborhood in Dallas to check out his wrecked car at a wrecker company and he said, "I hope you're packing." Another close friend had no clue at all until I took him to our local range for the first time and pulled my carry gun out to clear it for the range officer and he went, "Whoa! Where did that come from?"

My biggest worry is my students (I teach part time in a private school). They know I am interested in guns (most think it's pretty cool and some will ask me about it) and 2nd Amendment issues. I try to give them a counter perspective to what they are inundated with elsewhere. I know some of the students probably assume I carry but I won't tell them directly as I know some parents are a little sheepish on this issue. I'm not worried about my boss--he already told me if it was up to him he would let me carry in class!

I have a don’t ask don’t tell with “very close friends� and a lie through my teeth policy with acquaintances/co-worker

My problem, my wife kept outing me, tug on my arm and point and try to stop me in fount of a cop/standing by the gun buster sign at the fair / told my sister / told her mom ect…. We had to put an end to that. She did not understand that even if it came up in natural conversation, you keep it shut.

I don’t mind that folks know I have a CHL, it’s the daily carry I keep to my self. Even with others CHL’ers (until I know them)

so would you guys recommend telling close friends that you carry? I have a small group of friends I frequently associate with (none of which would be scared or bothered by me carrying), but I was wondering how "secret" is "secret"?...I'm just not sure how to keep it a secret from them, especially if I get the hug/what's that on your hip thing (they all know it can't be a medical device since we're all medical students).

I have told many of my friends and my family. Because of it, now my wife, father-in-law, and 6 friends now have their CHLs. Several more are on the way.

i don't have the plastic yet but the only people who know i will be carrying soon are:

1. the wife
2. my brother, who i took the class with
3. the cop that gave the class
4. one of my buddies who is a cop, he gives me a hard time about having to hide it and he doesn't
5. my parents

other than that, i ain't tellin nobody. gonna have to make darn sure the kids aren't around when i holster up too!!! they are young enough a little white lie will suffice when they bump it i suppose. though my six year old is way too smart for her own good.

I will speak out for 2A all day, but never tell anyone I'm carrying. I don't need someone shouting, "you have a gun, shoot 'em!" when the timing or the odds are not in my favor.
