Where to take CHL course in one day...... in the DFW area ?
Son has finally received his packet from Austin, wants to get into a CHL class this month if possible. He is a 21 year college student in Abilene so the week days are a no-go, he is looking for a one day course on a Saturday.
He is also a baseball umpire and has to go to a crew clinic on the one day that the gun range in Abilene is offering a course this month. If he doesn't go to the clinic he won't get any playoff games and those are big money, so he has to be there.
We could easily make a trip down to the DFW area on a Friday night, I could visit Harley shops while he takes the course on Saturday.
Any ideas ?
TxInvestigator ?
Thanks !

This place is good.

The deadly force portion of the class is usually taught by Constable R.L. Skinner, and often the part of the course dealing with the legalities of carrying is taught by Ray Allen, one of the TX State Legislators who helped pen the original CHL bill.
One of the FIRST "one stop CHL stops" in the DFW area, and still one of the best, IMO.
Show up with your packet. They provide EVERYTHING else you need except for lunch.

Do you know about the TEXAS State Rifle Association?

Hey, it's still quail season, so the next scheduled weekend class I've got on calendar is Saturday, March 4. Another one Sunday, April 2. Details at http://www.dentoncountysports.com.
' Sounds like ya got a really good kid if he's qualifying to umpire playoff games at 21. I also started calling YMCA through high school ball while in college (at WT). On most days, there is no better place to watch a good ball game than directly behind home plate. But ... if your son does not already wear a pair of steel-toed shoes, he will the very next game after his foot serves as the backstop for a foul-tip to the dirt ...
FWIW, I also do lots of hunter ed. home study completion courses, with most classes this time of year comprised mostly of males in their 20s- there because the game warden gave 'em the little blue love letter for not ever having taken a hunter ed. class ...
Edited to add: Methinks there's a Harley shop on I-35E northeast of us, maybe 7 miles as the crow flies (considerably further if the crow has to roll a flat tire.)

They do classes every 3rd Saturday of the month. They have a class coming up this Saturday the 18th. At $75 it's the best price i could/still can find in the MetroPlex. You bring your packet/gun/50 rounds, they do the rest. It is tought by Ft. Worth police officers and the information was very good. I plan on using them when i renew next year.
You should give them a call if you want to attend this Saturdays class.

Show Killer, you may not know it but you made history today. We have been wondering for several days who would be our 500 registered member. You are he. Or maybe she since your name is gender neutral. We do have several ladies. Hope you are going to be an active visitor. From the 2 posts you have made it looks like you might be. Welcome aboard. This is a great place to talk arms & ammo. Give us one on the introduce yourself page right quick so we can get acquainted. My son is stationed in Alamo City & ablut to retire. Where do you shoot there? When there we go to the Bracken Range. Have a great day.
Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Thanks for all the great information and the quick replies. I have filked all the information for future reference.
As it turns out, the baseball umpire crew clinic that my son was required to attend this weekend in order to call playoff games has been postponed because the lead instructor was not able to make it.
My son made a quick call to see if the class this Saturday (18th) at the Abilene Indoor Gun Range was full, it was not and they managed to get him back on to the roster !
He did have one question though.... on his payment to DPS to be sent off with his packet, does DPS still require a money order or is a personal check good enough now ? Thanks !

I reknew this yr. Thank you Watson. I will remember that. $'s for a money order is cheap when you divide the price by ten working days (total 12 at least & could be 14). That is a long time & for the ones that cut it close on time it could mean unarmed for a while.
