Gunman used hunting skills at Omaha mall
The world was stunned by the senseless shootings at the Westroads Mall and we mourn for the families and friends of the victims. While nothing can ease the pain of the survivors, it is time for the firearms industry and Nebraska Game and Parks to take partial responsibility for these wanton acts of violence, since incidents such as these expose the fine line between violence against wildlife and violence against humans.

Soon after the shootings took place, NBC4.com reported that Robert Hawkins was seen with a gun and was believed to be going hunting, something he did quite often. Hawkins now joins other infamous killers such as the teens who slaughtered twelve Columbine High School students in Littleton, Colorado in 1999, and the Jonesboro, Arkansas children who killed four classmates and a teacher in 1998, who were hunters before turning their guns toward people.

Sadly, the killing skills used by Hawkins are taught to Nebraska's children by the Game and Parks Commission under the guise of "Hunter Education." As long as state agencies conspire with the weapons industry in promoting violence as recreation, senseless killings will always take place.

Firearms and ammunition excise taxes are allocated to support and promote sport hunting - violence disguised as recreation - and the wildlife management business benefits every time a gun or ammunition is purchased, regardless of how those weapons are used. The time has come to re-write the firearms tax laws and have gun taxes support the medical/funeral expenses of the victims of gun violence, as well as supporting crime fighting programs.

Please join our members and supports in Grand Island and across the nation in eradicating the cancer of sport hunting forever. Visit http://www.cashwildwatch.org to help make the world a safer place for wildlife and people.

Joe Miele,

Vice President

The Committee to Abolish Sport Hunting

I'm speechless!! If they have been around over 30 years, they must not be very well funded.

Bunch of Bambi-loving, tree huggers.

Not surprised they would use this heinous act for their own publicity and promotion.

What a shameless smear!

As I was reading it, I figured it was PETA. But this was apparently too far out on a branch of "the crazy tree" even for them.

Obviously a fringe group. As another pointed out, who ever heard of them?

His reasoning is so ridiculous that it is not funny. If you follow his thinking then you could say that teachers should be ashamed that they taught embezzlers how to count because they used their skills to steal other people's money. They should be ashamed. Or scientist should be ashamed for releasing the table of elements information because drug dealers used it and made drugs which has thousands of people hooked. Sorry Pfizer.
If you don't stand for something, then you will fall for anything.

Joe Miele is another radical eco/animal rights activist like I talked about in the protection from dog attack thread. He wrote an article about stopping dove hunting in Texas before they became extinct. He also lobbied to get congress to try to stop their eco/animal rights group terrorism hearings.

The US is full of these type of sleeper terrorist groups. No matter what their mantra is, they are a bigger threat to security domestically than Al-Qaeda. Take a look at David Koresh, Tim McVey, Ted Kaczynski, etc. These folks are less conspicuous as they are not the 'typical' person you profile (yes I said it) as a terrorist.

You know, the funny thing about these eco-facists...

They say controlled burns are bad, but won't take responsibility for wildfires.

They say hunting is bad, but won't take responsibility for crops being destroyed by uncontrolled game.

and my personal favorite....

They fly hundreds of hours a year in commercial jumbo-jets, each of which put out more pollution in an hour than my running a HMMVW for a year, in order to screech at us about the damage done to the earth.

When Al Gore gets around exclusively on a bicycle (Horseback just won't do, they produce methane which is, of course, a greenhouse gas), I might have a little more respect.

For now? I suggest we all enjoy the sport of eco-facist baiting. Get them on a rant, make them lose control of their emotions and do something foolish.... and then show them for the fools they are.

Also, I'm going to be away from my computer for awhile....Just in case, Merry Christmas, everyone!

Oops...went there, too- I'm on the PC hit list too, now. Should have gritted my teeth and said happy holidays. Then again, I would have choked on my own oral excrement.

if hunting skills weren't to blame, violent video games, violence in the media, or pornography would have been to blame...

how about we concern ourselves with why this kid's violent streak was ignored and not reported before we blame a hunter's safety course.

I am amazed that an organization can exist for 30 years with such an idiot in charge.

Ya got me. But only because I never believed anybody was in charge of either of those organizations.
