typical of most answers here:

Casual wear

summer/hot: wear t-shirt with a light short sleeve shirt over it.

When weather becomes cooler: long sleeve shirt with vest or a leather shirt as a "light coat".

Winter: heavy coat.......duh!!!!

I have to dress respectfully a fair number of times:

Sport Coat works just fine <g> (if you wear a sport coat, it's a good thing to practice drawing with it on occasionally. Even try and shoot a match with it)

Up until last weekend, I'd never owned one.

I picked up a Rothco "Outback Vest" in knaki for $35 at Market Hall gun show. I specifically went looking for a vest with an inside pocket on left side for rare instances when I want to carry Glock with TLR-2 mounted on left side - and have a jag of 12 gauge slugs handy on the right side.

While I've only experimented with wearing the vest for other purposes a couple of times so far, one problem I can see with it is similar to that of a couple of pair of cargo pants that I also wear rarely. So many pockets that I know I've got what I need on me, but just can't find the right zipper quickly!

I don't do vests unless I am competing. I accomplish the same thing with a button up shirt.

Compvest does make a wonderful vest with plenty of length.

I wear an Izod vest I bought at Sam's Club on sale for $10.00.

It looks good, doesn't announce anything, and yes, it works very well as a concealing vest. Of course, I wear it only when it's weather appropriate.

Sometimes. Mainly when it fits in with other stuff I am doing. IDPA is a good time to wear one, but so is when I am out hiking with the camera and it really looks like a photographer's vest then.

Oh, it is a 5.11 khaki model.

I was wearing a photographer type vest long before I got my CHL. It's main purpose was to carry lots of candy and other goodies for when I went to visit the grandkids. I'm also an amateur photographer so I actually load it down with extra lenses, filters, etc. Now I sometimes wear it when I want to cover up my full size 1911. So the longer I have the vest, the more uses I get out of it.

I wear a Woolrich light vest each day when I walk the dog and often when I go to the range. It just is nice having enough pockets for dog treats, poop bags, flashligt, cell phone, etc.

Like Charles, I don't think anyone other than another CHLer or LEO knows the difference.

i have been thinking of getting one. i usually wear a button up shirt. i just wear it unbuttoned. does wearing a vest really "scream" gun? i would think only cops and chl holders would think of it. you are still concealing the weapon.

by the way, i understand that compvest makes vests. does he sell them. any one have any pics?

Vests do not scream gun. Even the 5.11s are not noticed as carry vests by those that do not know what they are. Just vests w/ a lot of pockets.

BTW
compvest is a she.
SHE can answer the sale Q.
I have seen her work & the are nice.

I voted never although I do wear a vest at times. My vest is not what I would define as tactical or photographer, it's closer to biker.

I have tried several of the 5.11 and other style vests, but they have a tendency to seem to fit me wrong.

I voted 'Sometimes' because I wear a 5.11 when shooting IDPA, which includes on the way there and on the way home. But that's about it.
