Nebraska Reciprocity
I see that we rcognise Nebraska CHL. Any word on Nebraska recognising us? I am traveling that way in a couple months, Ok and KS are good to go, but I am going to NE.

One of the hangups might be that in Nebraska you have to register a handgun with the local Sheriff or PD. I got this info from someone that lived there. When she moved to Texas the local sheriff up there wanted proof she registered her pistol down here. In fact you have to get a permit inorder to purchase a handgun
A handgun purchase permit is required by Nebraska Revised Statutes § 69-2403 for purchases of handguns in Nebraska.

Something doesn't sound right there.SC1903A3 wrote:One of the hangups might be that in Nebraska you have to register a handgun with the local Sheriff or PD. First of all, TX does not register guns and there is no procedure for doing so.
Second, when your associate moved from Nebraska to texas, she moved out of that sheriff's jurisdiction. He has no authority to require proof that she registered any guns in TX or any place else except his own county in NE.
So I think your associate misunderstood or unintentionally gave you a garbled version of events.

Handgunlaw.us is OK (not nearly as nice as Packing.org was), but the best place to check reciprocity is of course on our own DPS website:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administra ... rocity.htm
Where you can find the actual Governor of Texas pronouncement:

As far as the registering pistol business -- if SC1903A3's friend is able to have a Nebraska permit even if she is a Texas resident, (or if she is maintaining Nebraska residency somehow while living down here, and wants to carry on a Nebraska permit), there is no reason that Sheriff couldn't require pistol registration if that is what Nebraska law requires. The fact that Texas has no gun registration (and thank God and the Texas Legislature we do not!) would be irrelevent to that sheriff -- if she wants to carry with a Nebraska license (and I assume she has to get a Nebraska sheriff to OK it), she's probably out of luck, unless she can register her pistol up there somehow.February 16, 2007
Nebraska
Effective immediately, Governor Perry has issued a unilateral proclamation that allows persons with concealed handgun licenses from Nebraska to carry in Texas. All Nebraska license holders will be required to follow Texas law while carrying in this state. Nebraska law does not recognize out of state licenses therefore, Texas concealed handgun license holders WILL NOT be allowed to carry in Nebraska.

That was my point. The local Nebraska LEO assumed wrongly that Texas required handgun registration. Up there when you move from one county to another you have to register the pistol in the new county and show proof of the new registration to the LEO in the old county. She did not have a Nebraska CCW permit. She graduated from college down here and then decided to stay. The pistol was with her mother in Nebraska while she was in school here.First of all, TX does not register guns and there is no procedure for doing so.

Then when the sheriff told me that I had to show him proof that I registered the gun in TX, I would have told him to go jump in the lake.SC1903A3 wrote: That was my point. The year after I moved to TX from RI, they sent me a RI State Income Tax Return form. Of course, I had no income earned in or from RI that year. So I didn't owe those tax and spend Stalinists one stinking penny.
You should have seen the letter I sent the State Dept. of Taxation in return.

My brother still Lives in "The Communist-wealth of Nebraska" Thank God I don't. he says it is possible to get a Nebraska CHL, and that the procedure are similar to ours. I guess it was just wishful thinking that their Governor would reciprocate what OUR Governor has done. Oh well! One more reason i won't move back there.
Funny, We got into a discussion about it over Thanksgiving, He hunts quite a bit and has several Rifles, but no pistols. Couldn't quite convince him why he should get his CHL there. At one point, my niece asked him.."Dad, Does uncle Tim really think we are communists?" I had to laugh at that one.

Re: Nebraska Reciprocity
Permits to purchase? Register when moving? Wow... this is NOT the Nebraska I grew up in. Guess I really haven't been paying attention. Glad I don't ever have to live there, again.
