Printing- What amount is acceptable?

Man i'm glad this was brought up because the i've been practicing around the house with my C-Tac and my XD .40 in the 4 O'clock position and i couldn't figure out how you guys were keeping the butt of the grip from not sticking out when sitting? I thought that many would think it was my cell phone and that would be ok but wasn't sure till now. I also try to keep the gun tilted forward to help with the bulge when sitting down.

If you're sitting in a chair, it really isn't a problem because no one can see your back. When sitting on something like bleachers that don't have a back and people can stand behind you, I think the key is to sit up straight and not stretch your cover garment across the weapon.

I usually don't have a jacket, but I wear a tucked-in shirt with a tie. OWB is out (obviously) and IWB is not too concealable w/out a cover.

You might try a SmartCarry http://www.smartcarry.com or Kangaroo Concealed http://www.deepconceal.com/. They both work great with button-down shirts.

When I am in the office and not planning on going to court, I carry my 4" 1911 in a Milt Sparks VM2 underneath a tucked in golf shirt. As long as you don't wear your collared shirts so that they are skin tight, you will have no problem concealing with a VM2 tucked.

I also use a CompTac CTAC with an M&P9c under the same clothing without any issue. However, the VM2 is a world of comfort away from the CompTac IMO.

You can conceal anything under a tucked in shirt if you size the shirt properly.

Hey everyone,

Had a minor emergency a few weeks ago in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania- I'm here for school. Checked with the state AG's office to verify that a Texas permit was valid here, given my situation, got the green light, and shortly after I got home, a Water main burst up the street. I wandered down to see where it was coming from, forgetting I had my 1911 on at the 5 o clock position.... under a T-Shirt.

To make matters worse, a dog was being carried down the road, along with some large rocks. I've got a soft spot for dogs, so I waded out and grabbed the mutt, getting soaked in the process. Dog was happy, I was happy, and the cop that wandered over thanked me- apparently he'd been trying to keep up with the dog for the better part of a block....and then I remembered my .45. I asked him if it was a problem, as the soaked T-Shirt was clinging and stretched over the weapon (Galco IWB holster- worth every penny.) He shrugged and said "It looks like you've got a flashlight tucked into your pants, son. Don't tell, and noone will ask".

I may have been lucky with the officer in question, what's everyone think?

There's no reason to be self-conscious about it. As so many in this thread have stated, "printing" is printing and "bulging" is bulging. There are any number of things you can have in your pants that cause a bulge (file that under "things that sound dirty but aren't )

The law wants you to take reasonable care in concealing your weapon. This doesn't mean that it must be undetectable to Uri Geller, just not obvious. It is quite possible that your handgun my print or even become visible as you reach and stretch performing normal duties. This is ok. It might not be comfortable for the guys voting for Hillary Clinton, but it meets the requirements of the law.

In addition to concealing the weapon, you also want it to be accessible. It's important that you meet the requirements of the law while striking a balance between "hidden" and "accessible."

Just use common sense and don't be paranoid. If you're not self-conscious about it, chances are no one will notice.

Interesting topic. I was in Wal-Mart the other day, temp was around 90, in shorts and a t-shirt with my Kel-Tec PF-9 in my front pocket in my Densantis holster. A guy in another isle had a pair of shorts on, a short sleeve shirt and a vest. I knew he had a gun, and was glad he did. He paid no attention to me anymore than I did to him. I did, however, pay a lot of attention to the three guys at the counter with tattoos all over their body.

I love the kel-tec and now have three (well, one is going to the wife). Now that cold weather is here, I can carry my XD service with my new com-pac IWB tuckable. It works great and I defy anyone to see the gun or any bulge. I must admit that it is a bit unconformable sitting though.

By the way, shot the little Kel-tec at an IDPA bug match and she functioned flawlessly. Recoil was very mild and not really noticeable. I can not say the same for the S&W 340PD. With .38 +p's it hurts, and the .357's are a real bear. Of course, if one had to use it, recoil be unfelt no matter what class of cartridge used. A range gun it ain't.

I was in target with my wife today. I took off my sweatshirt because I was extremely warm inside the store.

About an hour later, I realised I had nothing covering my weapon.
In a crowded store.

Nobody noticed, or cared.

I felt pretty stupid for not noticing that I had nothing covering me, but yeah, nobody notices or cares.

Maybe it's just me but if I saw someone carrying and not looking too suspicious or concerned about the gun at their side I would assume they were LEO or CHL. It could be a newbie feeling but if they're not looking so nervous then I won't have to feel nervous.

I know exactly what you mean, and that is probably why he's never been challenged. It's a double-edged sword, I guess, when you consider that we might want people to point out a possible criminal concealing a weapon, yet we automatically assume they're supposed to have it because of their license or position. Interesting dilemma.
