Thanks for that information. It's good to know that all or most of Kevin's possessions will go to his family. That's assuming he did not have a will. He very well may have, which would be unusual for someone so young and not in the military or in a very dangerous profession.Don T wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 11:17 amIt's actually a commonly-held misconception that "everything goes to the state." A more accurate way to state it is that "without a Will, the state determines where everything goes." The state determines that, though, through its inheritance laws. Here is a brief overview of what happens when an unmarried person residing in Texas dies without a Will:

Re: Please pray for Kevin Tam's family
Today, 4/30/24, I was up to Denton to file my homestead exemption. Then I finally got around to something I have been meaning to do for a while.
I then went to the Denton County courthouse at 1450 McKinney St. in the City of Denton.
I had the Little Elm PD police report about strogg/Kevin Tam's accident, which happened on 9/12/22. It took first responders 1 hour to extricate him from his Ford Focus, a car in which my S.O. and myself, had ridden in multiple times when it was Kevin's turn to drive to Arlington or Willow Park for the gun breakfasts. Kevin hung on for 3 days, passing from this vale of tears on 9/15/22.
The Clerk of the Court, for criminal matters (as opposed to civil matters), referenced the LEPD police report and searched for a long time, trying to see if the man who caused Kevin's death was ever charged by the DA for vehicular manslaughter, or some such charge.
There was no record of this man ever being charged with anything related to causing Kevin's death. He skated, and continues to live his life.
Rest in peace Kevin.

I’ve been thinking about this and wondered something I don’t know about regarding the incident itself. Was there no charges because it was determined that Kevin was at fault or at least 51% at fault? He can’t think of any other reason there wouldn’t be any charges for something like this especially when it resulted in a death.

C-dub, et al:
Kevin was not at fault in this accident. He was proceeding straight on a green light.
The other driver was at fault when he made his left turn without failing to yield.
Kevin happened to be driving his older Ford Focus that day, while the other man was driving a Ford Expedition. The difference in the 2 vehicle's weight was substantial.
If Kevin had been driving his Ford F250 Super Duty Tremor with a lift kit, he might have survived. But that's not how it went down. The smallest decisions one makes can make a huge difference.
RIP brother.

Like many, I'm sure, I'm still trying to comprehend why there were no charges. Thanks for the information.surprise_i'm_armed wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 3:56 pm C-dub, et al:

Re: Please pray for Kevin Tam's family
From the info here, it sounds like the other driver made a major driving mistake with disastrous consequences, but without intent, intoxication, or aggravating factors of gross negligence or recklessness such as excessive speed, street racing, etc. That type of thing can happen to anyone due to a momentary inattention, distraction, or just simple misjudgment.C-dub wrote: ↑Fri Jul 26, 2024 3:43 pmLike many, I'm sure, I'm still trying to comprehend why there were no charges. I understand the natural reaction to want to punish someone for causing something so tragic, but in a case like this it's just not a crime.
