My liberal friends don’t often post military things, but today they did.

I couldn’t imagine this video was made recently, but it was.

The second most deadly sin in the Navy (after a collision at sea), is airing your laundry in public.

Good to see that the military is returning to taking seriously the chain of command and the UCMJ for all ranks.

Read this article. I have no sympathy for that captain.

He might be a great ships capt but he sucks as a Naval Capt... Boy what a myopic viewpoint he has. I don't want someone who cant see past the hull of his ship, and that is on a ship with a +2000 mile kill zone!

In the Army, first is failing to care for your soldiers. That said, commanders must be willing to spend the lives of their subordinates. The lives of or service members are the "coin of the realm." Yes, we must care for our service members, but not at the expense of the mission. The Army calls this concept "Mission First. People Always."

So no one noticed the lack of social distancing in the video of his departure.

No wonder the ship had a problem.

Since the rates have to hot bunk there's not much point in the 6' distance requirement. On another note, that Captain committed career suicide and he knew it. Bypassing the chain of command is generally a very bad idea, especially for the captain of a capital ship.

First, I'll say I'm a big fan of NRA member and beloved President Colonel Theodore Roosevelt.

Then I'll just leave this here...

Theodore Roosevelt captain followed in footsteps of ship’s namesake by writing bombshell letter

I have not served... but in talking to a lot of my buddies who have served, most have been supportive of the Captain being relieved of his command. Though we are not at war, this is a capital ship of the United States and by leaking this information outside of secure channels he has let our adversaries know that not only the carrier Teddy Roosevelt, but the entire battle group is not combat ready. I don't disagree that he thought he was acting in the best interest of his crew, but he went outside the Chain of Command and outside secure communications to let highly sensitive battle readiness information about his ship and battle group become public thus endangering their mission.

I remember when first seeing the news that the carrier had COVID-19 infections that my first thought was how did the media find out. That's not something that should ever be public information.

I'm fine with him being relieved of command and retiring after coming before an Admiral's Mast (non judicial punishment). I would not be in favor of a court martial unless other information came forward to warrant it. But let me add, I'm also in favor of an inquiry into the entire chain of command to find out if they let a capital ship continue active duty when it's crew was in danger of not being able to carry out it's mission due to the pandemic and did not take appropriate action to relieve and/or replace the crew. I don't know what could have been done, but doing nothing did endanger the crew.

I have read enough conflicting info that I will withhold judgement.... if he really was ignored after properly trying to go up the chain of command then there needs to be severe consequences for those who ignored the Captain along with the health and well being of our service members.

I agree - very severe consequences if they ignored Captain's pleas. But I'm having a hard time with him going outside of Chain of Command. That should include the ability to go over his Commander's head - even if he has to call the Secretary of the Navy directly at the Pentagon - which is possible today, unlike 30 or 40 years ago. But not through insecure email channel that he knows will get leaked.

Not sure about the navy but when I was a Lieutenant in the fire service as long as the letter went to everybody in your chain of command then you weren't going outside the chain but merely letting those responsible for making decisions know there was an issue that needed to be addressed!
Government, like fire is a dangerous servant and a fearful master
If you ain't paranoid you ain't paying attention
Don't fire unless fired upon, but if they mean to have a war let it begin here- John Parker
