Last week's unemployment claims of 6.6 million doubled the previous week's, and doubled economists' expectation. And remember, the previous week's 3.3 million was by far an all-time record...by a factor of 410%. That puts the unemployment filings for just the last two weeks at close to 10 million. The U.S. population 18 years and over is a little over 209 million, so that's about 4.5% of the adult population filing for unemployment in the last two weeks alone.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/us- ... us-economy

"Analysts are already warning the jobless numbers will likely continue skyrocketing in the coming weeks as mandated social distancing policies remain in place.... 'Four years of job gains have evaporated in the span of two weeks,' said Daniel Zhao, senior economist at Glassdoor."

The stimulus package will help, but I don't know if it will help enough. It's starting to look like avoiding a depression will take something of a minor miracle. Nobody thinks we have to wait the normal two calendar quarters to know we're already in a recession. Another few weeks to the expected peak of infections, and a few more weeks of this kind of unemployment information...

And it is hurting the economy right now. But for everyone who is looking at the skyrocketing rate of unemployment claims being filed, I have one question. Will you be as shocked when they come down as fast as they went up? Think about it. Unemployment was designed to be a temporary help when out of work for a short time period. Your company was declared non-essential and closed for the shutdown. You get unemployment and it is right and proper. But somewhere around May 1, or maybe even June 1, the shutdown will be over. The companies will reopen and will be calling all of these people back to work. Let's say it grows to 25 million out of work in the next two weeks. In one day, all of them will be back at work. Will we see those headlines?

Somehow, with this being an election year, I doubt we will see any headlines about the recovery being just as quick as the crash.

New Paycheck Protection Program Offers Real Relief for Small Business

“We cannot solve the economic crisis until we solve the public health crisis caused by the coronavirus, but we can take steps to ease the financial pain for our nation’s employers and their employees. And that is what Congress did last week,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) writes for Fox Business.

The $350 billion Paycheck Protection Program “will immediately get cash in the hands of small and midsize businesses to keep Americans tied to their jobs.” As long as employers use the loan “for payroll costs like salaries and cash tips, as well as debt obligations like mortgage, rent, utilities, and insurance premiums, it would be forgiven in full.”

Apparently the pastor in FL has been arrested, I have a feeling he'll be released pretty quickly....for the same reason gun stores are being reopened, The Constitution. Just as our government is learning about the 2nd Amendment, they apparently need to relearn the 1st and stop threatening Churches.
Now....do I think it's right or safe to hold church services? I don't know....probably not, but it should be up to the church, not the government.
A cousin of mine who lives in Georgia got very upset at the churches there. They have held regular services, and at one of them in a small town, two people were sick. Now almost the whole town is.

This comes under the heading of just because you can does not mean you should, IMO. But I did point out that Texans were smarter than Georgians. There is a fairly large church in San Antonio that just held services too. But they held it in the parking lot and everyone stayed in their cars. They rigged a large screen so that everyone could see the pastor during the service. You can hold services and still do it fairly safely.

Two things come to mind when I read this: the impact that just a few people can have on so many others, and the amount of data that is collected from your cell phone is way beyond belief.

Terrifying cellphone ‘heat map’ shows just how much people are still traveling

https://www.dailydot.com/debug/cellphon ... ronavirus/
The data, collected by location technology company X-Mode, was recently plugged into the geospatial data visualization platform known as Tectonix as part of an effort to track the coronavirus across the globe.

In just one example of the project’s findings, cellphones on a beach in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, during spring break were selected and tracked. When the festivities ended, the cellphones were seen sprawling out across the Eastern half of the country, potentially bringing cases of the highly contagious virus with them.

Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Considering that members here are from all over Texas, here is a link to updated county by county China Virus numbers in Texas. People may find it interesting to see what their county numbers are.It also shows the total number of tests given. Which is relatively low compared to total Texas population. Total fatalities is also updated daily.

It also shows fatalities by county demographics.

Harris county leads the pack with 847, followed by Dallas county with 731. I found it interesting that Galveston county was at 118. Seems high for a smallish population?

That’s a good one. It’s hard to make sense of the Johns Hopkins version as it relates specifically to Texas, because it’s reporting globally and on the whole country. There’s also Texas-specific data here: https://covidtracking.com/data/state/texas

Here’s a good dissection of the bioweapon theory timeline, and it’s looking more and more like the Democrat Steno Pool (AKA “the media”) are willingly spreading the Chicom's disinformation:

I have believed from the beginning that this virus leaked from the Wuham (Luhan according to Biden) lab. The Chicom is never going to tell the truth about any of this. The scary part is that it is likely going to happen again and who knows how bad the next one will be.

Especially since they announced yesterday that the $1200 checks will take up to 5 months to distribute. There are millions of low-wage workers out there as we speak who have lost their jobs and their income, and facing bills and hungry families and need that money YESTERDAY. Soon to follow will be repossessions, crashed credit scores, suicides, etc. and possibly urban violence.

I agree. :iagree: There are many vulnerable people out there who will be hurt badly by this. For many of them this would have just been a week off of work from an illness, and no big deal beyond that.

The checks need to go out quick, not take 5 months. My view this initial quarantine of two weeks was a very good idea. The longer it lasts however, the more difficult it will be to maintain it.

I'm hoping the heat and humidity kill it.

What did they decide to do about helping people who are self-employed and/or independent contractors? People who work in salons (or barber shops), for example, are usually 1099 contractors, not employees of the salon. Not to mention all the little mom-and-pop businesses out there. Seems like all the assistance is for small businesses with employees.

So 25% of the worldwide infections are in the USA with almost 12% of the deaths and we were hit late and had shut downs in place very early. The closing of the Rodeo in Houston has really limited Houston's infections compared with New Orleans which still had the Mardi Gras.

Currently USA infections increase by 31,000 cases a day with new recoveries increasing by 500 a day, but deaths increasing by 1200 a day.

New York City is rapidly approaching the total number of infections being reported by China.

Deaths divided by Deaths plus Recoveries in the USA = 41%. Italy is at 43%, China is at 4%, Iran is at 15%, Spain is at 26% France is at 30%, Switzerland is at 10% Germany is at 4% and the United Kingdom is at 94%. Probably this just tells us that everyone does not count the same.

So are masks now required or not?
