......There is an old military saying that once is bad luck, twice is a coincidence, but three times is enemy action. These claims make me wonder if some people are not taking advantage of this virus to attack our economy and way of life. I am particularly concerned when i see media reports of the "new normal". If this were a real temporary emergency, how did it become normal?

Yes, I know it is beginning to sound like a conspiracy theory. I am hoping I am wrong about this and it is my suspicious mind and training. But my paranoia does not mean that there are not people out to destroy our country or way of life.

This also mirrors my thoughts. This is the greatest media event since the Trump impeachment, et. al. went dark. I think we are being manipulated - what a coincidence the market tanked and elections are in a few months.

There is no doubt about it gentlemen. We ARE being played.

If we are being played then Trump is either leading it or he’s been beaten by the media.

Corrected numbers being reported now:

From WHO, as of March 19 and posted on March 20: Worldwide 209,839 cases with 8,778 dead (a mortality rate of 4.18%)
From CDC, as of March 19 and posted on March 20: US Wide 15,219 cases with 201 dead (a mortality rate of 1.32%)
From TX DSHS, as of March 19 and posted on March 20: 194 cases, 5 dead (a mortality rate of 2.57%)

The reason for the drop in the number of cases is that all three are now reporting only confirmed cases. They had been reporting presumed cases which inflates the numbers. They are still inflating the numbers for deaths though by reporting anyone who dies after testing positive for COVID-19, without regard to if they actually died from other medical problems. In one case, the subject died from other causes but the autopsy revealed he was positive for COVID-19.

I am guessing that the US has a lower rate than the world because we have a better medical system in general than most countries. We definitely have better medical care than most of the third world nations that are reporting cases. I think it is the real proof that our pay for your own medical care system is better than most socialized medicine, but that is a debatable argument. I am also guessing that the Texas mortality rate being higher than the US is because of the lower number of cases in Texas. This makes it a statistical aberration and not meaningful. Alternatively, it could be because of the higher percentage of people who are in the high risk pool for this disease. To prove that would require more data than I have, including the percentage of each state's retirement age population and their actual mortality rates too.

Whether true or not, doesn’t really matter to me at least. I’ve been working from home all week. After two days, I realized I hadn’t even stepped out of the house. I’ve had to make a conscious effort to go outside and sit in the great country air breeze and take a stroll with my wife on our back roads. Just so busy with work. Essentials such as food & medications will go on being open even with a ‘stay at home’ order. There is no way that people will be forced into hunger or without meds.

The president has done a good job along with retailers and employers already pushing you into your house without furthering the panic so many have fallen into. This gradual approach is better than waking up to it one morning.
