DPS unveils new design for LTC card

#1

Post by ident »

Looks like DPS has updated the design of the LTC card, along with all other cards:

What do y'all think of the new design?

I don’t think Jane Sample would dance with me. She has at least 5 inch’s on me.

We shouldn't need a card.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

I'd be happier if it had the Real ID features that are on the Driver License. Imagine using your LTC at the airport TSA checkpoint. :coolgleamA:

I just sent in for my renewal about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully I'll get the new card. :txflag:

What is the reason for two cards: LTC & Driver Lic?
Why not all in one?

Also can we just get the new card? Reasonable fee would be fine.

I want to be able to show an ID without revealing my license to carry. Most employers want a copy of your driver license when hired, check-writing, purchases that require a minimum age, etc..
I agree that we shouldn't need a card at all.

The REAL ID program is managed by the feds and they set the requirements. Right now, they only allow states to certify driver licenses and non-driver identification cards. They don't really have an incentive to expand what states can certify because in most states you already need a DL/ID before you can get an LTC or equivalent.

If you travel a lot, check out Global Entry. It includes a REAL ID compliant card that doesn't include your address (or even state of residence).

Exactly. The two-card method prevents targeting and discrimination. Some states use a drivers license endorsement for concealed carry authorization. I'm glad Texas does not.

This is the same reason DPS just recently started requiring your phone number or email to sign in to the LTC website. Before, someone could take your DL/ID# plus your DOB (both of which are on the front of your DL/ID) to check to see if you are licensed to carry.

One last question on the card please.
What is the reasoning behind not being able to have it on your phone (not carrying physical card)?
You can have your credit card on it, why not driver lic or LTC?
Great forum. Now understand why LTC not built into driver license.

A passport card that is issued when passport renewal is handy. No address on that either. I hate advetising my address to airline and TSA people. Letting them know that I am leaving town. Funny thing about the passport card though is that it doesn't have the little gold star on it. Feds saying do as I say, not as I do.

A picture of something on your phone wont have a magnetic strip.
A phone copy will not have tactile feel, wont be tamper resistant...if you read the info link posted, what they said about the card it address why a picture of it on a phone would not meet the designed in safety features
