Austin City Limits Festival

Planning on going to ACL this weekend. I've never been there and am wondering if anyone has any experiences with concealed carry there. Its in a public park, so I'd imagine 30.06 isn't a problem. Though it's a private event with security etc. Any metal detectors? Wanding? Frisking?

I don't think there are metal detectors, I don't remember but they do search bags.

SPeaking of the subject, I had three day passes to go with my GF. I didn't take my pistol there, and there were no metal detectors there either. On the ACL website it said that they didn't allow any type of weapons of any kind. I didn't chance it, and I found the cops' presence decent.

Either way, ACL was fun! Hope you had a blast, too!

Wouldn't this have the legal enforcement equivalent of a gun-busters sign -- at best since it's not even on site? Hypothetically, what can happen, legally and otherwise, if you are attending an event where you can legally carry (i.e. no 30.06 or prohibited place by statute) and security decides to check you for a CCW? If found, do you just receive a verbal 30.06 notice and have to leave or are there potentially greater ramifications? Anyone's thoughts on this?

City property; no such thing as an enforceable 30.06 notice, "verbal", oral, written or otherwise if this isn't a political meeting. Also it isn't court, professional sporting event, critical infrastructure, school, etc.

I'd think no different than State Fair on City of Dallas Property where they have to let you carry.

I think people carried last year; I personally wouldn't carry "off-body" though...fanny packs/purses etc might get searched.

If it's a problem ... just go by kayak... I'm told most of the "noise" is loud enough to be heard on the water Take water to drink and a picnic basket ... wear a life vest.

"guns on boats" (even without a CHL) is law now was HB25

Back in the day when I lived in Austin, (14 years ago) quite a few of the shows were held in the larger clubs and they WILL be posted 51%. So I suspect that if you carry, you may limit your options somewhat.

Yeah, well just because it says on their website doesn't necessarily mean that it's illegal to carry. I was just taking into consideration at that point that I was going to be consuming alcohol and I took the free bus to get me there, so i wasn't going to drive at all. They had plenty of cops there, and I felt that was safe enough. Plus there was TOO many people like right next to me (literally rubbing next to me) because it was so packed that I would really feel uncomfortable to keep putting my hand on my weapon so that it wont get touched or worse someone hits me the right way to where it goes flying out (Trust me, hands were flying everywhere, and it just wasn't safe, nor comfortable). So regardless if I could pocket carry, or even have a super comfortable setup, I just felt like I didn't need it. I would have felt COMPLETELY different if there was no cops present though.

Either way, I survived and Austin was a blast. Beer was TOO expensive. My GF and I spent almost 300 dollars in those 3 days. Not including afterward meals on our cards + gas + hotel. Either way, it was a my birthday present.

This year marked my last year to attend ACL. I just can't deal with the crowds, people having zero respect for your stuff, $7 beer and listening to these artist blabbering about Barack Obama and how evil the Republicans are. I guess Stevie Wonder loves B.O. because he can't see what he's doing to this country

They were only glancing in bags, purses, etc though I'd have not wanted to be carrying in a bag they were searching just because I wouldn't want the worry or hassle. Went fine, and since I had to park 2 miles away, I felt a bit safer as I walked back to the car around midnight.
