Can't explain the purpose and function of that 3rd notch on some hammers.

Finally found an explanation for that 1/4 cock position, which is not a cock position at all.

The Safety Stop is a flat, shelf-like surface on the
hammer which functions automatically. It will engage the
sear in the unlikely event of primary sear notch failure.
This will prevent the hammer from falling fully forward
unintentionally and will insure against uncontrolled
automatic fire. It also prevents the hammer from striking the
firing pin should your hand slip from the slide or hammer
while cocking the pistol, provided the hammer is rotated
past the Safety Stop. It is located such that when the sear
engages the Safety Stop, the sear can be disengaged by
squeezing the trigger. It falls because the sear slides over
the flat part of the safety stop to release the hammer. This
is intentional but will not allow the pistol to fire. It will not
fire because the hammer is almost fully forward when it is
released from the sear. The Safety Stop is not a manual safety
and should not be engaged by hand. Do not carry
the firearm while Safety Stop is engaged.

Well, how do you lower the hammer down? You would have to do it after racking the slide and now you have a round in the chamber. This seems to me to be a very unsafe practice. I realize the firing pin is not exposed and does not touch primer, but why would you want to do this? I just rely on the thumb safety and the grip safety.

I have this installed on two of my 1911s and a BHP. I really like it!
My SR1911 Commander has over a 1000 rounds thru it via action pistol matches and range time with this installed. Works perfectly. An excellent option if you carry a 1911 or BHP, in my opinion.
Also available for Series 80. I do not work for nor affiliated with this company, they just make good products in my opinion.

I guess I am missing something again. A 1911 and a Browning HP was meant to be carried cocked and locked.

I wouldn’t consider carrying my 1911 any other way.

My wife is opposed to carrying with a chambered round and the hammer back. I don’t like the idea ofhaving another mechanical system involved which may fail. I just practice the Israeli system with her.

I don't care for chambered down and Hammer cocked nor complex extra systems either. The Israeli method doesn't seem so great either. My choice is DA/SA. Diffferent strokes for different folks.

Charles did a post not to long ago(or was it 1 or 2 years with articles of a man who got into a deadly force situation and he was shot dead because he did not have a round chambered, and that precious second or 2 to draw, rack the slide and get on target cost him his life.

I wish I could find that thread. I looked but couldn't find it.

Edit to add: With my SA semiautomatic pistols, I ALWAYS carry a round in the chamber, as most of you do, and when carrying my DA/SA always a round in the chamber in DA mode. Always. And I'm with Liberty. I prefer DA/SA to SAO.
