HB 446.
Removes "knuckles" from PC 46.05.
But what is bigger news, to me anyway, is it also appears to remove carrying a "club" in public as an offense from PC 46.02. Whoa!
Somebody else go read the text and see if I'm right:

Does this mean saps and jacks are now legal to carry?

If the law is not vetoed by Governor Abbot, it will into effect September 1, 2019. Until then knuckles and clubs remain illegal.

Here's a question, is a Baton considered a club? I have my level 4 security commission, I can legally posses it but only carry it while in uniform, so if clubs become legal and a baton is a club, I could carry even off duty?

IANAL, but I believe the baton would be included in the definition of "club".Sec. 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:
(1) "Club" means an instrument that is specially designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument, and includes but is not limited to the following:
(A) blackjack;
(B) nightstick;
(C) mace;
(D) tomahawk.

Well, by "now" I meant when the law goes into effect. The question is, does the bill allow carry of clubs in public? It appears to me that it does.Papa_Tiger wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2019 11:18 am If the law is not vetoed by Governor Abbot, it will into effect September 1, 2019. The law as it stands this moment exempt certain security personnel who are on duty from the prohibition against carrying clubs, so pretty sure the law considers batons to be clubs, along with anything else you can whack somebody with.
