Who in the Houston area sells .38 +P LSWCHP 158 grain ammo?
The young clerk at the Academy store near me was clueless.

LSWCHP = Lead Semi Wad Cutter Hollow Point. Favored by the FBI at one time.

I have never even seen one of these rounds and don't know where they can be bought.

I believe they were the first 'Hollow Point" ammo available in the Day.......
Before copper jacked was mainstream.

They were Lead and had a recess or dimple in the flat nose. Peeps would alter them a bit further by cutting 4 slots in the edge of the nose for for "more" fragmentation.

I have not seen any for many years.

Corbon makes this load. I sometimes carry it in my SP101. It is +p rated. Not sure where it is available over the counter, but I'm sure you could order through the mail directly from Corbon or from one of their distributors.

There has been some migration to the 158 grain LSWCHP FBI/Chicago load following the Fish shooting to avoid a perceived liability factor now associated with hollow point bullets, rightly or wrongly. It is not a hollow point, but rather a solid ball round. It is hard to find on the shelf. I recall buying a box of 50 at a WalMart once, and not knowing what it was, promptly shot it all up in practice. It was pretty accurate, and I really couldn't tell any significant recoil difference between it and 135 grain Gold Dot SB's from a 637.

It is not a hollow point, but rather a solid ball round.

It is a real HP and not ball. The ballistics show them to be a decent round.

Check with the Ace hardware and True value chains. If they carry ammo they can order it for you. The parent companies of both have ammo and firearms in their inventory, if the stores have the necessary permits to sell them., the one in Livingston keeps that in in stock,about $22 a box for 50.

You're right. I was thinking of the plain .38 LSWC which is pretty bad by and of itself.
