I am still a bit confused if this bill creates an exemption for first responders during the execution of their duties solely. In other words, an off duty first responder will not receive defense to prosecution for 06/07?

But, we the volunteer FF'ers & EMT's, are never really off duty unless the definition of on duty is regarded as actual response to a call.

In either case, what documentation would I need in addition to LTC and DL obviously...NREMT, SFFMA, IAFF, CERT card?

Needs to have 2 readings before amendments can be proposed/considered.

I'm not sure whether to read anything into the fact that the Bill was recommended out of committee for the "local and uncontested" calendar but is now on the "Intent" calendar instead.... That would seem to indicate that someone wants to offer amendments or otherwise contest the Bill when it comes to the floor. Not certain about that...

The Senate is in session now considering bills in some order that is a mystery to me (possibly by senator priority). I notice that for bills on the Local Calendar (I think) that also need 2nd and 3rd readings, they are suspending the rules to vote on both readings.

So there is hope I think that these two bills will pass today...


WHOA! The Session is being broadcast live, and I had one ear on it as I was typing this. Zaffirini is up with a couple bills and I just thought I heard a conversation between the Chair (Perry?) and Zaffirini that seemed to indicate that she will present her "final" bill in a little while -- and the Chair said "That will be a moment in history." Is she retiring?! Big news to me, she represents my area (altho not my views!), and is second in seniority only to Whitmire. Does anyone know anything about this?

ETA: I guess not. I just called her office, and her staffer was almost as confused as I was. Apparently it was an inside joke between her and the Chair about the way she phrases her motions versus the way he would prefer she do it. Or something.

The amendment by Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, was added to House Bill 435, which seeks to allow volunteer emergency workers to carry licensed handguns while on the job.

Changes to state gun laws in 2015 inadvertently allowed licensed gun owners to carry weapons into state psychiatric hospitals, including areas where patients live, Watson said.

It had better have been the wording of HB 14 rather than some of the other attempts at closing the mental hospital loophole. Given this was in the Senate, I suspect it was, but we won't know until tomorrow when TLO gets updated.

I believe so, unless the text below changes.

"(18)AA"Volunteer emergency services personnel" includes a volunteer firefighter, an emergency medical services volunteer as defined by Section 773.003, Health and Safety Code, and any individual who, as a volunteer, provides services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations."
