I know this isn't about TX but while I'm waiting I mailed in a application to Maine on 2/27/17 and received my CCW today. :anamatedbanana

1/4/2017 Filed Online Application
1/10/2017 Fingerprinted at Identogo in San Pedro, CA
2/11/2017 Took Class
2/12/2017 Stuck all paperwork in mail in Plano.
2/??/2017 Not sure when when everything but Background Check and Print Pending turned green but it was towards end of February.
4/24/2017 Still waiting.

Probably going to give it a few more weeks before calling but planing a trip back to Texas middle of June and would like to have it before then.
I see people mentioned they received an email when their forms were received, the only email I got was when I filled out the form online and I received a checklist with bar code. I haven't received any other emails or letters and I check everyday as I'm waiting for other licenses.

Did I miss something?

I don't live in TX so I don't have a State Rep to contact. Let us know what happens.

Yes, please let us know! This would greatly help us all that have been waiting ridiculous amounts of time. That is not correct that they can just make you wait 180 days. Please let us know how everything plays out!!!

Here's a new one....I'm sitting at right around 50 days or more. I called this morning to see if they could give me some kind of information. My status is sitting in background check and has been for freaking ever. I have 2 charges on my record which are juvenile misdemeanors. Nothing to reject me. The lady said all she could say was its in background check and that can take from 3-6 months. What the eff happened to the 60 days thing.....?! I didn't say anything and was happy for some kind of info. But. After 60 days I will be following glockgirl and contacting state rep. Something is screwed up here.

Sent another email through the RSD website and this is the reply I recieved.

"Our records indicate your application is awaiting the completion of a background investigation and additional review. If further information or documents are necessary to complete this review, you will be notified in writing.

The Department shall complete the record check and investigation no later than 180 days after the date the department receives the documentation from the applicant. Your documentation was received on 01/29/2017. Allow the department time to determine approval/denial."

Still no response from my state rep, but that really doesn't surprise me! So frustrating!!!!! :banghead:

Arrrggghhh!!!!! :mad5 I would be VERY surprised if even your state rep's office doesn't answer you. I am sure that they should get back with you. So what exactly did you say to your state rep?

OK I found out the holdup. I got a letter today about a 22 year ago fight I was in. I plead no contest to battery and disclosed it on my application. Now they want to get a copy of the disposition and a statement to know if it was DV or not. I actually went through this when I got my FFL so I have everything.

I got the letter on 5/1/2017 so I will keep you all updated on the new time line.

Does anybody know if it can be submitted via the same website you upload the other documentation or does it need o be mailed? The letter is vague on how to return the requested info.

Hopefully they take what I sent them, its a printout of the case from the Superior Court website I got when I got my FFL a few years back, the ATF accepted it. The court has since purged my case from their systems since it is over 20 years old so I can not longer get certified or even any copies.

Submitted via RSD website on 5/1/2017.

What happened to your state rep? What did your state rep's office say? Did they respond back to you?

Here is what I have found out about the process from my own experience. Calling the handgun license number is pretty much pointless. You will not get any answers from them because I believe they really don't know what's going on with your process. I submitted all my paperwork and received confirmation on February 10th. Like many I called once a week and got the same answer of we just have to wait for the process. When I reached my 60th day a called again and was told that the clock doesn't start till they actually open your application. This is completely wrong. It clearly says 60 days from the time the complete application was submitted or received ( confirmation email). I decided to look up my state rep for the county I live in and sent their office an email asking why I was being with held my constitutional right. The next day their office called and said they would look into it. Surprisingly dps manager called me that afternoon to tell me they were being held up from an arrest when I was 12 years old for battery that was wrongly documented as a felony but was actually a class a misdemeanor . She did not how ever have an answer as to why I was not sent a letter by mail saying they needed more info as it states that needs to be sent out within the 60 day period. Honestly seemed like they threw my app in the corner untouched. Long story short I made a few calls and had the reports needed in about half a day. It blows my mind that an investigator could not have done this considering all I did was make a few calls. Anyways my recommendation to anyone waiting is to get past your 60days and get on top of your state rep. They are elected by you to work for you and is the fastest way to get answers. There is no telling when I would have finally been notified about this issue with out pushing them on this.
So they pulled up a felony on your record? You had a felony on your record without even knowing it? How were you able to get a job, buy a firearm, etc. this whole time?

I was never charged with a felony. But apparently when I was arrested they arrested me for a felony charge so when they did the background check it showed that I was arrested for one but I guess didn't actually show the outcome. I was a minor when all this happened which is why I guess it's never affected me.

So my time line is a little different and let me make a few suggestions to get things moving along. So 20 yrs ago I was arrested and the charges were dismissed. Just because of an arrest, this changes your timeline significantly. Do not despair, as long as you DO NOT have a conviction. You will be fine, but they are going to make you wait. :banghead:

Here's my timeline

Submitted application: 2/4/2017
Fingerprints: 2/5/2017
Submitted supporting documents to RSD same day as application: 2/5/2017
Receipt of supporting documents from RSD: 2/14/2017
Submitted supporting documents from arrest dismissal: 4/19/2017
Print Pending: 5/1/2017 :woohoo

Should be here in 7-14 days according to the email, saying I was "Approved" and it was being printed.

So I obtained a Federal VAF number and put that information with the application. Thinking that would help things...Well..I waited and waited anwaited..No Movement and all I get from girl who answers the phone is you are still going through the background check. I forgot to email a copy of all my certified court docs showing "No Conviction" and it was expunged. I sent a copy of my original "Disposition" showing dismissed and my firearm rights were restored, Certified letter from the State AG office showing it was dismissed and I also got a copy of my FBI report and sent that along with it to showing my dismissal. I sent this information April 19th and then we got some movement.

Let me make this statement. They say they have 60 days, but that's just if you have a clean record. If you have a blemish..It will take about 3 months. :bigmouth :mad5

I am now waiting for my license, but 7-14 more days isn't going to make much of a difference. I do also have an Arizona CCW and Virginia CHL..So i wasn't really worried, but they do take forever! I know there is a Bill to do Constitutional Carry in Texas. HB1911. I think that is a great thing, but I would get a CHL/LTC so if you travel to other states you are legal.

What I don't understand is why Texas takes soooo long. Arizona was about 3 weeks and Virginia was about 4-5 Weeks. They asked for all of the same information and I provided documentation..But darn!! 3 months for Texas..Geesh..Hope this helps.

So here is an update on 5/4/2017 - Printed/Mailed finally turned green. Holy _______ batman! Finally
Then on 5/5/2017 - Got an email from them staying it's been printed and mailed. Then it goes on to say please allow 7-14 days..Really! So from Austin to Dallas it takes that long?? So 7 days to get to Dallas? What are they using..Carrier Pigeon??Anways..i am hoping to have it by Monday or Tuesday..what a relief..i think I am going to get my FFL License after this..should be faster..Good luck with the Austin slow birds..

I turned in a certified disposition for my misdemeanor along with my original application and supporting documents hoping that it would speed things up somewhat, so I don't have to go through the bull of getting a letter and then sending it to them. You sent yours like 2 months after your application. I believe the rule is that they have 60 days to approve or deny based on whatever record you have, even if it's clean or you have even one misdemeanor. They must make a determination in those 60 days or send you a letter asking for information, in which then the 60 day clock will be extended.
