My LTC will expire in 6 months. Should I be getting a renewal notice in the mail or do I need to contact DPS to renew it?

You should get a renewal notice, but if you're within 180 days you can complete the renewal online right away.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

If for some reason you get within 3 months of expiration without getting your notice then take charge and contact them directly to start the process.

Renewal seems very fast too. Had my LTC in 3 weeks. I did get a renewal notice in the mail but if you check the website you can do it all there. Added veteran status to mine on internet. To get it added to my DL I had to physically go to DL center.

Does DPS keep your DD214 on file from your original application? Do I need to resubmit my DD214 with my renewal?

Thanks. I'll stop asking the question in other threads. :) I guess if they need it they'll let me know? I have 6 months before mine expires.

If they need anything from you, which they didn't for me on my second renewal, then they will contact you for it. They will attempt to use an existing photo they have and the existing fingerprints you have on file.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?
