Yep, heading out tomorrow to be ready to nail a deer at sun up Saturday morning. What's great this year is we can take up to 2 does the first two weeks of the season. Before, we only got 4 days at Thanksgiving. I hunt for meat, not antlers, so I'm taking what I can get. It's been 4 years since my freezer has seen any venison. :grumble

Sounds like you got the plan!!

I didn't know that, I'll have to do my research. I've never taken a whitetail so hopefully i can change that this year, have just taken some nice size axis bucks though. Yep I'll be in the blind before sunrise Saturday morning.

Good luck.

Nowhere to hunt this year. First time in about 15 years. :grumble
That's no fun. I used to dove hunt out in Katy where they were building all those new developments of 1463. Now all the fields turned into houses... been a while since I've been bird hunting. My 12g has seen no love the past two years.
You're missing out..........no freezer space needed!

Sorry for the confusion. When I said "we" I meant the county I hunt in. Each county has different restrictions. The county I hunt in changed from last year. You need to check what/how many you can take in the specific county you are hunting in. Good luck to you too! :tiphat:

I might be going Saturday but my hunting partner and myself think it is too warm for the birds to be down and the rains might have messed this weekend up. I hope y'all weren't talking just about deer, they're too easy. Ducks are where the fun is.

Never mind. The state pulled a fast one and I didn't find out until 8 tonight that duck season opening day is a week later this year. Almost made ole GW happy.

No luck this weekend. Saw some promising WT Doe's but looked a little young to take. My brother took an Aoudad and someone else we were with took a spike WT buck. I had to head back yesterday to get ready for work today. I sighted my rifle in months back but still seems to be a little off, going to have to head back to the range sometime this weekend.

Anyone else have any luck?

We close on a hunting property in Northeast Edwards County 15 December. Been searching for a suitable place for 6 months. I spoke with the developer and he gave me permission to set up my blind and feeder now but cannot hunt until we close.

I'm excited.

Mrs. Anygun and I were driving on the property last week and jumped a huge WT buck out of an oak mott.

The property has 2 -3 big hog wallows on it.

There are exotics in the area.

A co-worker and I have harvested over 150 dove near Corpus Christi this year.

Edwards County is a great place. The Axis deer are plentiful there. Congrats on the property!

No luck this weekend. Seems like it was just too hot. Saw lots of redbirds and even bluebirds.
Chicken fajitas cooked in cast iron skillet, red/green peppers and onions on cast iron skillet over coleman stove (fire wood to wet) while camping out, can't be beat though.

I had a duck and goose lease for years back in the 60's and early 70's. I'm sure the 2400 acres of rice fields we had are streets, lawns and houses now.

I wish you luck. Unfortunately our lease doesn't allow guests and even if it did it's a lot further than a two hour drive from DFW. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm out in Comanche. We have seen several great bucks on camera. Of course, we go out and see them Friday night, but then nothing Saturday. Tons of does, two have twin fawns, a few others have singles. Tons and tons. We are suppose to take 4 does and two bucks off the place this season. New Years should be fun.

If your undecided on which does to take, go for the one of the two with twin fawns. Its common for an older doe to have twin or even triplets. Good luck.

A little under a 20 yard shot. About a 50 yard blood trail that was easy to follow. Shot on my lease near Brownwood.
