Someone told me a long time ago... "I've only got two speeds, and if you don't like this one, you're darn sure not gonna like the other one". Every time one of those folks has to answer the phone (which must be almost constantly) it takes time away from processing apps.

if that was the case, 1-5 people a MONTH would get there LTC, they're just operators.

there are issues with the DPS system. there are renewals taking anywhere from 60 to 100+ days. my fingerprints were lost in their database. it's a major issue that isn't being addressed. I emailed my state senator and he and his staff agree and will be looking into it. I do suggest emailing your reps, senators, and Abbott so we can see things fixed instead of being content with less.

Agreed. I don't have a problem with the time it's taking now because I know it's due to the influx of apps due to Paris, San Bernadino, Open Carry, etc., etc..State agencies can't just staff up that fast to meet a temporary demand. And if they could, new employees would have to be trained. But they could do a MUCH better job communicating with folks, and a good status tracking web tool would do the trick, I think. They should also update their website with current estimated processing times based on current demand for licenses.

Just some thoughts.

As you look back from 2007-2015 posts you see they are "dialing it in" so to speak,, is it close to perfect, no way, but I'd take the 2-3 months compared to 4-6 like it was not too long ago.

We shouldn't even need a license in the first place. the only reason we are required in texas is because of 46.02 which makes it illegal to carry a handgun at all outside of home and walking to your vehicle. This gives them room to tax us on the 2A and require a license. If we have to pay then I want my license ya know? why were my fingerprints lost in a database for a month? why are there renewals waiting over 100 days because their fingerprints were lost in a database? why did I still never receive a call from a supervisor after it was put in my file notes several weeks ago or get a response from an email sent 2 months ago? If we have to tolerate an infringement on rights, lets make it as smooth as possible haha. fix the issues, that's not too much to ask if I'm being taxed, right?

My application to plastic was probably 40 days. My change of address was probably 10. A guy I work with got his in 45 days. You're just now getting into the whats the deal territory -- be patient.

And like has been said already, we have it good right now -- back in the day the waits were incredible from what I understand.

Interesting comments here on my original post. However, I disagree with those who accept government bureaucracy. The government does not tolerate late payments from its citizens that they represent on anything (car registration, car safety inspections, property taxes, etc) My official email from DPS states the following:

We have received your License To Carry supporting documents. Please allow up to six weeks for processing.
We will notify you by mail, if any further information or additional documents are required.
If you need further assistance, please submit your inquiries at our Contact Us web page.

DPS is the one stating the timeline of 6 weeks. Not any of us. If the statute is different, then simply state that in the email! It has been 9 weeks (63 days) since I received that email from DPS. I have not received any email from them telling me anything was wrong. I only found this forum a couple of weeks ago or I would really be wondering why after the stated six weeks I did not have my license.

I am not the one being impatient. I would like to carry my firearm to protect myself and my family per Texas State law. I have complied with all they have stated and required andf now expect them to do the same. So I am not OK with 9 weeks or 12 weeks, or like those of you from the good old days 6 months. When government passes a new law, they should plan for its implementation. Our elected officials are there to hear are concerns when they do not.

Basically, Sec 411.176(a) gives dps 30 days to start the investigation. Subsection (b) requires the local background check to be done in 60 days then send the fingerprint cards to the FBI for a national check. Under subsection (d) dps must have its complete investigation done no later than 180 days after the check is done. But, if they blow the 180-day deadline, I do not see a remedy in the statute. As Algore said, no controlling legal authority.

I am sorry I have to write this but, I tell my customers that if they need it tomorrow they should have called it in a week ago not today. The same thing applies here. Why didn't they apply last year or the year before. It is not like they just made a CHL available this year.

I renewed when the license still had three months of life left.

Yep. I remember the wait was like 6 plus months with a clean record. I could be wrong, but maybe its the 100s of phone calls a day of folks wanting to check status that could be slowing down the process a little.

Have patience. I know it's hard. Hang in there.

If the website would update like it should, all of these calls might not be necessary.

Try sending the local gubmint a "please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery" note next time your property taxes are due.

Well, I emailed The Gov this morning to let him know that my "please allow up to 6 weeks" has turned into 13+ weeks.

Let's see what happens because of it. My guess: Nothing.

I emailed my Rep's office last Wednesday and got an email and call within a short time. I received a follow up email minutes ago that someone from DPS would be contacting me. We'll see what happens.
