Who ever is in office never scared me as much as if the Supreme Court was not balanced to perform proper checks and balances on the government ....this is most certainly going to lean the court left ..not good for anyone
May God's healing hand bring his Peace to the Scalia family. Justice Scalia's passing forebodes interesting times for our nation. Let us raise our voices to God in prayer for wisdom and discernment, and let us raise them to our Congressional representatives to be sure they understand the importance of the Constitution not as a "living" document but one of clear meaning with respect to the proper limitations and role of Government in the lives of citizens. The person chosen to fill the now-empty seat on the US Supreme Court will weigh heavily on the direction this nation heads.

The conservatives in the Senate will have this opportunity to show where they really stand. If they cave in on this one there is nothing left for us except secession.
God and the soldier we adore,
In times of danger, not before.
The danger gone, the trouble righted,
God's forgotten, the soldier slighted.
Early in my legal career, I had a case before then Judge Scalia on the DC Circuit. He understood completely a very complicated case and wrote an excellent opinion. He was probably the best judge I ever went before.

And I lost that case!
I've always heard from legal professionals that he was one of the smartest legal minds in the country and knew more about the constitution then nearly anyone else .
Even people who didn't agree with him acknowledged how brilliant the man was

I have seen a couple of analysis stories that suggest the Senate will not confirm a new SC nominee until after the November election. Only time will tell if those analysts are correct.
What a loss for America. Obama will no doubt bull head a nominee. Truth be told it is his right to do so. I haven't researched how long it takes to fill a vacancy but I am very concerned that one year is a very unlikely amount of time. Probably much sooner. I have a hard time believing that repubs can hold out the long. The hope we have is that in this election we vote Cruz in to office and he will likely also have the opportunity to appoint a couple of justices. Hopefully no damage is done in the meantime. Gotta admit, Obama has been a very successful president. He has imposed his will on this nation in many respects. This appointment may be his final act towards his legacy of destruction of the US.

Obama is about to discuss this. I'm anxious to see how her handles this. I hope he surprises me.

This is sad to hear. While I am not a conservative I feel the balance the court is in now is more beneficial to the nation than if it were to be heavy on the liberal side. I do side with the liberal side of politics's especially on social issues (except @2A) I fear what will happen when cases of financial matters and obviously 2A come before the Supreme Court.
A year is a long time and I doubt the republicans can postpone it that long. I don't think it would be good for Obama to pick but it might be worse if Hillary gets elected.
