Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
The current Assistant City Attorney for the City of Abilene contacted the Texas Attorney General’s office after the Abilene City Councilman raised the issue of the legality of the 30.06 signs being posted around the Abilene City Hall. The City of Abilene has never been ordinary citizen user friendly. The only way to get things done correctly is to have a lawyer who can make threats at the appropriate time.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
I attended a musical concert in the main Frisco CIty Hall this evening. I was surprised to find a 30.06 sign just outside the door but then realized that the concert was being held in the council chambers. I took a picture of the sign and plan to write to the city manager about its presence for a non-city meeting event. Before I do, I want to confirm my understanding that it is the event (meeting) that is prohibited for CC and not the room in which the meeting could be held.
The sign is on a plastic "bread board" type of arrangement that appears like it would be easy to fold and store. I'm hoping that its presence this evening was just an oversight. There are more concerts by this same group in this same room in 2016. I'm hoping that I don't have to make trips back to the car for those.

Did you take pictures. I ask this because I see gun shows still exhibiting 30.06 signs on county owned property. The people who sponsored the concert might have displayed the sign, and like at the gun shows it is a recurring event.chasfm11 wrote:I attended a musical concert in the main Frisco CIty Hall this evening. I did take a picture. Based on the way that the group acted, they were just using the space and did not really control it. But that is worthy of a follow u[ with them. Perhaps they found the sign inside and put it in the lobby. I have not doubt that the sign belongs to the City, not the group.MeMelYup wrote: Did you take pictures. I think that I will call the City and contact the group before going further. It is my intent to highlight the use of the sign on a recurring event there. I will file with the AGs office.

The musical group claims that the sign was in front of the doors before they arrived. They also said that they tried to touch as few things as possible in the room during the concert as possible. I will contact Frisco in writing.

I noticed last Friday that the police station in Mesquite Tx. has posted both 30.06 and 30.07 signs at their front doors. The jail is on a lower floor.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
So here's one that I put on the Texas3006 website some time ago.
If you search on the Texas3006 site for the "HPD Airport Police Substation" at Bush airport, you'll see that the police substation has a 30.06 sign. The photo for it is below. Should this one be reported and subsequently removed?
I was just there this week, and the sign is still up.

If it is outside the TSA controlled area, then it is illegal.Vol Texan wrote: If you search on the Texas3006 site for the "HPD Airport Police Substation" at Bush airport, you'll see that the police substation has a 30.06 sign. I found this interesting:
MHMR Of Tarrant County was added in the city of Fort Worth. The type of restriction is: 30.06
Government building obviously. Does MFMR get a pass on this?

Can a TPWD ran state park legally post a 30.07 sign? The facility in question is the Wyler Aerial Tramway in El Paso.

The Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center was posted last weekend when I went there. It is city owned and can't be legally posted.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
Where would this fall into it - Town Green Park is a township owned park located in The Woodlands, and the sign prohibits "Weapons/Guns" within the park. I'm assuming that this isn't a violation of 30.06/30.07 as they don't have either of those signs or the language. And I'm assuming that they cannot by law simply ban weapons without the usual language that allows licensed carry? And if so, what is the best way to deal with this?
