Muslims have a parallel with Christians in that there is plenty of internecine doctrinal religious differences, i.e. like the differences between say Methodists vs. Baptists, or even more divided, Catholic school of thought vs. various Protestant schools of thought.
Muslims suffer these same schisms and are often willing to kill each other when disagreement arises.
Just being a Muslim may not comport with a terrorist if the Muslim isn't his kind of Muslim...
Just being Muslim isn't necessarily a get out of jail free situation when confronted by a radical Muslim...You have to be the "right kind of Muslim" or bam, you're dead too.

At the time a good Muslim was up against an Islamic terrorist I don't think the good Muslim would tell the Islamic terrorist that he's not a true Muslim. I think they would bro hug and say lets go kill some bacon eating infidelsAbraham wrote:Muslims have a parallel with Christians in that there is plenty of internecine doctrinal religious differences, i.e. like the differences between say Methodists vs. Baptists, or even more divided, Catholic school of thought vs. various Protestant schools of thought.

If you had extremists slaughtering their sons in the name of Christianity, I'm most certain there would be outcry from Christians declaring that not part of our religion and condemning the attacks and those who did it. I'm not hearing that from the Muslim community.Beiruty wrote: Would you say the same for Old Testament (I guess part of both Jewish/Christianity religion) that has something like ordering a father to kill his son if he does disobey the father). We should not discuss religion but extremists killers would justify anything to kill anyone including killing Muslims.

You hear what the media allows you to hear. I am sure Beiruty would be part of that outcry.TXBO wrote:If you had extremists slaughtering their sons in the name of Christianity, I'm most certain there would be outcry from Christians declaring that not part of our religion and condemning the attacks and those who did it. Not all the time true, some extremists decided to say to a Muslim if you are not with us then you are with them, bang! or your head is on a plate.Richbirdhunter wrote:At the time a good Muslim was up against an Islamic terrorist I don't think the good Muslim would tell the Islamic terrorist that he's not a true Muslim. I see. The overly progressive leaning media is filtering the Muslim outcry so as to make them all look tolerant or inclusive of this extremist activity. Is that what you'd have me believe?Javier730 wrote:Like I said, you only hear what the media allows.

I've stayed quiet through this three pages of exchange, but this one is worth commenting on. I don't like to say, "you're wrong' often, because opinions, whether baseless or not, are valid to the person who holds them. But this is wrong.Richbirdhunter wrote:At the time a good Muslim was up against an Islamic terrorist I don't think the good Muslim would tell the Islamic terrorist that he's not a true Muslim. Working in the oil & gas field, and traveling extensively around the world (about 25-30 international trips a year to some wonderful garden spots such as Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Oman, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nigeria, etc), I have more than my share of interactions with all sorts of folks - many of them Muslim (plus a lot of Buddhists, Jews, and even a Christian or two ). While I keep my list of 'friends' down to only a handful of people, I'm very friendly with many of these folks. I've had dinner in the homes of many Muslim friends around the world, and I've found them to be friendly, open, and welcoming. For those with whom I've had the pleasure of discussing personal things such as culture, religion, etc., I've found that their interpretations of their own religion are as varied as mine (Roman Catholic) is from my neighbor's (Southern Baptist).
But to say they'll all bro-hug with the terrorist and kill some bacon eating infidels is akin to saying that I'll bro hug with the Westboro Baptist Church folks and sing praises about dead soldiers. Or perhaps, I'll bro-hug with a KKK member while we protest the black family that had the audacity to move into our neighborhood. Ain't gonna happen - no way, no how - and to imply that is insulting.
I live in a pretty simple frame of mind. Many things are good, and some are bad. But to get grouped into the bad grouping, you've got to do more than fit into a simple stereotype.
I don't freak out when someone has a confederate flag flying, but if they have white supremacist tattoos on their neck and a couple of teardrop tats below their eye, I might shift to condition orange.
I don't get nervous when the guy on the plane next to me unrolls his prayer rug to do his salah prayers in the galley area, but if I notice a neighbor that I've known for 8 years suddenly withdrawal from pleasant conversations, change from wearing daily business attire to wearing a dishadasha and kufi all the time, suddenly grows his beard way out, and starts getting lots of FAMs visiting at all hours wearing same, all after he took a 2-month trip to the Middle East, perhaps I'd start wondering if something was going on.
Beiruty and/or Abraham, I'd welcome the opportunity any time to sit with you and talk guns, religion, or any other topic. I love a good discourse, and can learn a lot from discussions like that. I have the feeling we'd both enjoy it, and both come out more informed, and/or entertained by it. And if we were together and confronted violently by either the jihadist or the white supremacist who wanted to do us harm, I'm certain that you and I would engage them together, side-by-side.
But anyone on here who assumes that just because you're a Muslim that you'll turn your back on me and bro hug your your Muslim brother... Well, let's just say I'd be as insulted as you would by that remark. I have no need for that kind of negative influence in my life.

I live in Texas, and Washington makes me uneasy. So does the Associated Press, actually.
Come to think about it, Austin does too.
I grow old with worries!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.
Re: Fox News and Associated Press says Texas is uneasy
I am with Vol Texan. I have met, broke bread, with many of different heritage and faith. Those who would do evil upon others will always use religion as a facade to hide behind.
If one looks at some of the reports out of Northern Iraq or when I was in Western Iraq in 04 Muslims (Extremist/Foreign Fighters) were killing locals because they were not the same type or espoused the same version. No different in my opinion than Protestants and Catholics bombing and killing one another. For that matter Quakers and Amish.
True men, men of honor, courage, respect each other regardless of belief/faith. Those who would interpret or twist the words, add calls for death or murder based entirely on selection of religion would do the same without the facade of religion. Evil will always do evil. It will simply find another facade to hide behind.
An person of honest nature, love of work, respect of others are not Model A cars. They do not in only one color/faith/religion/heritage.
While I am not officially still charged with protecting the Constitution it is something that I cannot lay down.
It is always sad when men of honor and courage have to rise up to strike down evil, because the men of honor will forever be saddled with the heaviness of heart and soul due to the taking of life. Even if that life was evil, corrupt, and murderous.

When the terrorist attack in France happened the terrorist let people go that could recite the Koran. That's a bro hug. If you couldn't recite it you died. That's the bacon eating infidel part.

You will believe what you want. Nothing I say so change your view. You have been brainwashed by the media for years and associate muslims with terrorists.TXBO wrote:I see. What good does an outcry do if everytime one of the beliefs followers commits a horrible act the whole group declares they are not a part of them. The priests and pastors who have practiced their beliefs for years and then harm children are surely still believers. "Everyone who follows our religion that does good is a part of us and everyone who follows our religion and does bad is not a part of us." To say they are no longer a part of your religion just because they do wrong is ridiculous. I could start the perfect religion with nothing but perfect people using that logic.TXBO wrote:I'm most certain he would.
