"UT opts out of campus carry" - this has to be a media typo, right?

According to KEYE TV, UT will not allow campus carry at all?
I *have* to think this must be a reporter without an editor or fact checker... right?

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal

Ah, here we go. The *faculty* is stamping their feet and pretending they have the option to ban CC entirely. But that hardly makes UT policy.

My understanding of the law is that state-run colleges/universities MUST allow campus carry.
Private schools can opt out of allowing campus carry, as TCU (Texas Christian University) recently did.
Baylor and Rice may soon follow.

One part of me hopes that UT goes full retard and tries to ban concealed carry explicitly, or with such an absurd patch work that it obviously thumbs its nose at the law, thus infuriating the Legislature into dispensing with any say whatsoever by the universities.
Another part of me fears they will do this and their representatives in the Texas House will roll over for them and squelch any attempt to bring them to heel.

The Lege has been more or less furious with UT since 1882.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

This is the poorest excuse for journalism I've ever seen. It's basically a Facebook/Twitter meme without the funny picture and devoid of any facts or information. No wonder why this country has been headed in the wrong direction for so long.RHenriksen wrote:http://keyetv.com/news/local/ut-takes-a ... rry-debate

The president of UT said something to the effect yesterday that he did not want campus carry but he would follow the law.

UT Austin = 40 acres, I'd have to add up all the acreage at every distant campus, but I bet they still can't qualify as an AMUSEMENT PARK just because of the clowns there

I don't know when you were on campus last, but UT is a heck of a lot bigger than 40 acres now, and it was when I was there ~50 years ago.NotRPB wrote:UT Austin = 40 acres, I'd have to add up all the acreage at every distant campus, but I bet they still can't qualify as an AMUSEMENT PARK just because of the clowns there
You may be on to something with the amusement park idea, though.
The local chapter of Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything has been very active through the years and more so now.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Rubbish article; the 'journalist' who wrote this needs to find a new profession.

You beat me to the amusement park crack.

Well you do know gun free zones are the safest places to be. Nothing ever happens there.

UT's Faculty Council says allowing students and staff to carry guns would take away from the schools mission. They also say it will create an uneasy and hostile environment.
Campus carry is set to take effect next fall.

This and TU being 40 acres? You sure you are from Texas.
