I really don't understand why people with Chl's want to open carry? The only thing it tends to prove is that there really are gun nuts out there and the law abiding citizens such as myself seems to get thrown in with the rest!
Please tell me who REALLY needs to know you have a firearm? ?
Would you people PLEASE tone it down! !!!

Walking around with an open firearm does not look cute nor will it PROTECT any better than concealed.
Law enforcement, Military, and Armed officers are the only people who need to have open firearms.

OPEN CARRY WILL NEVER MAKE YOU OR ANYONE AROUND YOU FEEL MORE SAFE OR SECURE! .... AND that's a fact.
...and here we go again

And how exactly is this relevant to the thread topic? :banghead:

TEXASG7, I totally disagree with your comment.
If I am a robber and I look around and see maybe 1 or 2 people who are have handguns strapped on their waist, I'm going to move on to a weaker target. I don't buy the thought process that the robber will try and shoot me first just because I have a handgun on my waist in plain view.
I may be wrong but I don't think so. Just my opinion.
Be safe my friend.

I've heard this before....mostly from the Bloomberg-paid "Moms" and others who try to tell me how I should "feel". I've heard this from folks who think they know better than me how I should express myself both verbally and physically.

Not working here for me. I'll decide how I act, how I present myself and I'll take responsibility for my actions. No amount of SHOUTING or "!!!" at the end of a sentence will cause me to think otherwise.

TEXASG7, I see an argument, but not persuasion, in your post.

Just because you have a RIGHT to do something does not mean it is WISE!!!
EXAMPLE :
I had the RIGHT to vote for Obama but I did not because it was very UNWISE!
DON'T expect the public to adapt to your RIGHT because you can do so. America is a very violent place and another nut with a open gun won't make it any better! !!
Never.... not today or tomorrow.

I guess all the other "nuts" in the other three dozen states who can legally open carry are in the wrong as well? It's not like Texas is first state to allow it, but finally realizing "why was this ever illegal in the first place"??

TEXASG7,

Welcome to the forum. I see that you have 7 posts as of this writing, and over half of them are accentuated by a plethora of exclamation points, all caps (shouting) or both.

I'm sorry to see that our conversations here get you so worked up. This is a generally friendly place, and while we may often disagree, we prefer to keep a general sense of civility and decorum. I hope that as you participate more ( and I hope that you will) that the urgency and anger that seems to be implied in your writing style eases a bit.

Back on topic, as a city-dwelling CHL (LTC) holder, I may rarely OC. But I venture to guess that the more civilized (read: rural) parts of the state may have a different mind-set.

Sure, it could be argued that if a robber comes into the bank and sees ONE OC'er, it may not deter his action, and he may be inclined to neutralize the biggest threat to his actions first. But I'd OC ever becomes mainstream, then he may walk into the bank and see THREE OC'ers, which may give him pause.

Again, welcome to the forum, and I welcome your responses to this and other topics.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

But I'm guessing you're not actually a robber. Criminals don't necessarily think like the general public. Sure, the vast majority of them will go find easier prey. But some will think "Who does this guy think he is, carrying a gun around, trying to intimidate people? I'm gonna teach him a lesson", or "Hey, I'll hit that guy on the head when he's not looking, and get a free gun." Lots of criminals have had guns pointed at them before, and it won't necessarily scare or intimidate them like it would a normal person.

"...Another nut with a(n) open gun.."?

I know exactly what's going on here and I refuse to play this game any longer.

I think there is a possibility that said one could calm down and peacefully participate in conversations. But the insults and accusations need to stop. If one has a point, make the point, don't just "shout" what "is" and what "isn't" right in your opinion, as that goes nowhere quickly.

There are valid points to both arguments, but it is ones choice on how they carry, and we should all respect that, and not call each other names. Have fun guys & gals. :cheers2:

You have a right to your own opinion, you do not have the right to insult those who choose to exercise a right that the State has afforded them. What you consider wise going through life does not make it correct, just your thought process and I am sure many others will disagree with you. Calling anybody who open carry's "another nut" just shows your ignorance on the topic and is based solely on your uninformed opinion. Just for the record I will most likely never open carry, my choice although I will never insult those who choose to as you have.....
