USPS needs new clocks or be able to move back time!

Post by puma guy »

I ordered a Redfield scope and Wheeler Ring Alignment tool from MidWay USA a while back. I posted about the scope in the vendor deal section.

I checked the order status @ 3:15PM and the USPS link said it was delivered to my front porch at 12:19PM today. :headscratch I walked down the block looking at porches and found nothing. On my way back I see a USPS truck in front of my house pulling away. I flagged the driver and asked if he'd made a delivery to which he replied yes. I said I was looking for a package that supposedly was delivered at 12:19PM. I got a shrug! "rlol" It was 3:30 PM and as it turns out it was the scope. Of course my neighborhood could be in a time warp!

Apparently when time doesn't matter - any time will do.

Their stated purpose is to deliver the mail. But "when" it gets delivered is another horse altogether.
So, just fudge the time and do what you want. Sorry to rant, but the USPS is not my favorite organization.

My wife and I bowled with a couple that worked for the USPS. Most of their efforts were on how to get out of work like their co-workers were doing and still get their full pay. It was sickening to say the least.

Edit to add: Hope the scope is good for you and it arrived in good shape. :thumbs2:

At least you're only a couple hours behind. A few weeks ago I got notice a packaged was delivered and I could not find it.

When I went to the mailbox the next day the postman was putting the package in the mail box.

I wonder if it is part of their performance review. I heard some of the supervisors are very demanding as far as schedule.

I got a UPS package yesterday and the guy ran from the truck to the front door, knocked on the door and ran back to the truck.

He must have been really behind schedule.

I've been told by my postal carrier that sometimes they scan it as delivered at the post office before they leave. The hand scanner has a huge time delay that they don't want to wait on.

I went to a postal workers union meeting in New Braunfels in the early 1980's as a guest of the husband of a friend of my wife. ( He didn't realize I was in management at a union refinery ) It was an interesting experience... There were a lot of workers there who were on disability which I though was odd for such a small town. I've always had excellent service from my regular carriers and was sorry to see my last one retire, but he was replaced by lady who does a great job. She's been a carrier for many years. The guy today was not even in a uniform.
The scope was in good shape and I now have to decide on which rifle to install it.

There's a time stamp for "out for delivery" at just after 9am. My regular carrier who delivers most of the time rings my door bell when she delivers a package and the time stamp is right on.

The UPS scanners are quick. I have been in the house and gotten an email that my package was delivered before the guy gets to my front door.

One thing that bothered me is when the proof of delivery said that it was delivered to a woman. :grumble

I have this happen all the time and it gets so bad that I request that Amazon not ship via USPS unless there are no other options available.

Of course they were only around for 19 months.

And their oath was different (well, as far as I know a USPS worker doesn't swear an oath):

"I, ..., do hereby swear, before the Great and Living God, that during my engagement, and while I am an employee of Russell, Majors, and Waddell, I will, under no circumstances, use profane language, that I will drink no intoxicating liquors, that I will not quarrel or fight with any other employee of the firm, and that in every respect I will conduct myself honestly, be faithful to my duties, and so direct all my acts as to win the confidence of my employers, so help me God."

After lots of trouble getting mail and packages delivered by the USPS, unresolved by filing formal complaints, personal visits with the "postmaster" at two offices, I swore off using USPS when ordering online.
But guess what? Unless you order a bulky or heavy item, there's a very good chance that even though you request FedEx or UPS, it will be coming to you from, guess who? The USPS!
There's a thing called SmartPost. An agreement between FedEx and USPS whereby FedEx will send the package through the USPS. I think UPS has similar agreements, not sure, but I've observed Big Brown bringing pallets of packages into my USPS for shipping out. I received an email from FedEx last Friday saying my package from Char-Broil was delivered to my address. Not! No package. It finally showed up two days later, delivered by guess who? USPS. Even had a USPS shipping label on it. So my attempts at avoiding a bad carrier didn't work. When I called FedEx about it, they said there's nothing they can do, it's the merchant that determines who the carrier will be. She said merchants save money that way. I don't understand the logic of 'two' carriers handling the package..how that saves money?

Yup. That's why I mentioned in my above about requiring Amazon to stop using USPS for anything that can otherwise be sent UPS or FedEx. They DON'T LIKE you knowing that you have that option, and you have to communicate directly with them either by phone or chat to request that. But what I did was EACH and every single time that a package wasn't delivered when it was supposed to be, I got on chat and complained. And as USPS was the only carrier missing delivery deadlines, I made a point of each time that they did when I complained I insisted that Amazon compensate me. Now, the neato thing about that is that I have Amazon Prime. So I've already "paid" for that guaranteed delivery date/time-frame. So when they missed that deadline I simply insisted that they credited my Prime membership....to the point where eventually I had nearly a full year of additional Prime. That's what made it easy for them to agree to opt me out of USPS. They don't tell you that you can, and it is nowhere in writing that you can. But I'm telling you, you can because I did it. That of course is just Amazon. But anytime I order something from anyone I try to force using anything but USPS.

USPS quality has decreased substantially. The North Houston sort facility is a black hole. I've had packages reside in the facility for weeks. I have decided that I will avoid USPS as much as I can. I will pay more to use UPS.

It's funny that when I order on Amazon Prime and packages are sent via USPS there seems to be no issues. They must have some contract with them to take priority over other packages. Heck, I received packages on Sunday from USPS when using Prime.

Yeah, the North Houston facility is terrible. Heck, I can't even order postal supplies from them and expect them on time. And the carrier shows me the printed version of what she gets, and it never ever matches what I order online. But Sunday delivery from Amazon is the only time I accept USPS. UPS doesn't seem to deliver on Sunday (but I have actually received from them sometimes), and the USPS carrier for Sunday seems to do a good job AND interestingly the delivery notification only comes after it has been delivered. I have recently though expected a Sunday package from Amazon via USPS that simply didn't come, until Tuesday.

You reminded me that the North Houston Station is terrible. I got two hickeys from Ebay and a case from a buyer because items I shipped sat there for days and the delivery time wasn't met. Same thing on items I'd purchased sitting there. I complained to the USPS which went nowhere and thankfully the buyer retracted his case against me after the item arrived and apologized for some nasty emails. The thing that irks me is EBay's shipping function knows the postage was paid with assigned tracking numbers and they can see what's going on but they don't consider that when the system is alerted the itme didn't arrive by the date automatically set up when you purchase shipping by USPS through the Ebay system.
