Ever Been Asked to Leave?

Another thread running right now got me to thinking...

This may be a stretch, but: have you ever carried into a business that had only a "gun buster" sign (not a compliant 30.06 sign) and the business owner or worker somehow determined you were armed, and they then instructed you to leave?

If so, how did that work out? Quiet & civilized exchange, angry words, threats, a big scene, cops?

I know some people believe that some business owners knowingly post "gun buster" signs in order to try to straddle the fence, and would just give a private wink and a nod to a CHL'er. Other business owners might truly be adamant (even militant) about their desire to prohibit concealed weapons for anyone in their place of business, and simply be ignorant of the legal posting requirement.

And I know: "concealed means concealed." But sometimes stuff happens.

So, if it's happened to you, or you've seen it happen to others, how did it go?

Interesting question, but I doubt that anyone on the forum has run into this situation.
Most of us do a pretty good job at keeping the handgun concealed.
If it were to happen, I would hope that any forum member would leave immediately.

The only incident I remember is a nurse in Dallas was arrested.
Later the charges were dismissed.

If it were to happen, I would hope that any forum member would leave immediately.

I would hope that any license holder would leave without incident. It is the law and you could be arrested as well as lose your license if you fail to leave when asked (or told) to.

In many years of OCing in AZ and VA, and the past 10 ccing in TX. Not once. Ever.

I'd imagine you'd have to be concealing very, very badly for this to happen. Not even making an attempt kind of bad.

Maybe, but I suspect more people will be asked to cover up than to leave. I know that's the case with some business owners and other institutions. Some of those the decision makers also carry.

An Interesting observation... Many threads, posts and posters led me to believe, differently.

Seems some (more and more)cover the weapon minimally, and are utterly unconcerned with "accidental" exposure. And further, The number of folks that "announce" carry... a term I only recently heard, whereby one carries spare mags, openly and the gun itself covered only visually, not truly concealed is growing. Im not saying I agree or disagree with those carry methods, just that they seem to be becoming much more common.. even with members of this forum.

Clowns displaying spares are typically OCT tools that like to be noticed. Recently displayed by Holcomb at a Whataburger to show them how smart he is, if I recall correctly. I'll be surprised if anyone on this forum will admit to doing it, but I'm sure the lurkers are applauding his genius at PR.

Yes, likely few of those here.

But there are MANY mentions of the minimally covered to just meet the letter of the law, intent and concealment not concerned with.

That's a good point. Probably a lot of small businesses (and a few large) support CC, but just don't want the distraction of open carry. I still suspect few 30.07 postings, but for those that do, I'm going to assume CC is OK unless they also post a 30.06.

Taypo, not pointed at you at all, but I swear lately on this forum it is like a game of the "Six Degrees of OCT (and or Kory W.)." It seems like a thread can't even get through the first page without a mention of them. For folks so concerned about OCT and others and how all they want is attention we sure do give them alot!!!

I think that is a safe assumption. That is what I am going to do.

By the way, I have never been asked to leave any place for any reason other than my house when I get on my wife's nerves. She will tactfully ask me if I have somewhere to go or something to do. I finally learned to pick up on that hint.

Once, while grocery shopping I had to bend over to reach something in the bottom shelf and my shirt rode up over my cell phone case and partially exposed my spare mag by accident. I didn't notice until a women behind me was standing waiting to get by but the aisle wasn't blocked.

She was just looking at me and I uncomfortably asked "Can I help you with something?" and she said something about how she was afraid to get shocked with my stun gun.

I casually glanced down and saw my gun was still covered but the cell phone/and maybe my spare mag was exposed. Did she mistake my cell phone for a stun gun? Did she even know what the barely visible thing sticking out of the IWB spare mag holder even was?

I smiled and pulled my shirt down over the cell phone case and spare mag and she smiled and walked by. No further incident to report.
