Gun store in San Antonio

I am looking for a good CCW and Dury's has what I am looking for. Does anyone know if they will work with you on the price or maybe throw in a holster? Or does anyone here have a favorite place to buy in San Antonio?

Dury's caters to the LE crowd mainly, so, unless you're toting some sort of Legal badge, I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll cut you any deals (but, you never know!). I prefer The Powder Horn - they're easy-going, and I get great prices from them all the time.

I have bought guns from The Powderhorn (410/Marbach), Sportsman's Warehouse, and Texas Guns (Bandera Rd.). All had absolutely great service and were very CHL friendly--especially Sportsmans when I have gone back for holsters. The Powderhorn has probably the best service and one on one attention, although all were superb. Sportsman's has a wider variety of firearms, and Texas Guns has stuff you can't find anywhere else. I have never bought anything at Academy firearms wise, but they have been cool when I have been looking.

I've dealt with Dury's since 1974 and they will negotiate with cash, since plastic runs about 2% higher than cash. Also if you are a KNOWN customer they will sweeten the pot. Just ask Johnny if they can on the item.

Durys is my gun shop of choice. They may or may not work with you on the price, but I haven't ever felt like I paid too much for any gun. Can you do better? Sometimes, but keep their lifetime warranty in mind while contemplating thier pricing.

Well its already been said once here, but a known customer tends to get a better deal. That said, I've always had great luck with Bill over at Powderhorn. Being a fellow St. Mary's alum doesn't hurt either, but all of the guys in there are fantastic to deal with. Either way, check them out and see what they're willing to do for you.

Let me second that Dury's is my shop of choice in San Antonio. I only wish he had slightly longer hours so I could get there while he is open more.

He will work with anyone on the price for cash, but does give LE and known customers a better deal. Asking for the holster to be thrown in is probably the best bet since there may be more markup on it to work with.

I also wanted to say that most of his tag prices seem to be fairly competitive for the area on new guns. His used guns are priced a little higher than I think they are worth, but he is also more willing to negotiate on them. I have also been told I am cheap on used guns, depreciating them more than the market does.

I like the fact that eh gives a lifetime warranty on any gun, even used guns, no matter what the factory does for you on the new ones.

+1 on Powderhorn being a friendly place. I have bought a gun or two there and was happy about it. Usually have a pretty good selection. I always liked going in there when I lived on that side of town.

Never bought a firearm at Dury's, but they also have a nice selection, and seem to have lots more to choose from with respect to holsters and belts and other gear. In additon to LEO discounts, they have military discounts as well, or did last time I was in there months ago.

Jerry's Texas Guns often also has a lot of guns and holsters to choose from. I think his prices run higher than others, but when I had troubles with a used gun I bought there (at a good price for that one), he fixed it for free. He also shipped back a pistol under warranty for me for free since I had bought it there. He has a range almost next door now, have not been to it since it opened (last year?).

Nagel's on San Pedro has by far the most guns to choose from, hands down. I think their used gun section alone is bigger than most other gun stores in San Antonio. Lots of equipment, gun safes, knives out the wazoo, reloading stuff -- you can hardly move inside the store for stuff. I have not purchased anything there -- yet. Nothing against them, just haven't hit the money/want/availability intersection yet.

There's one at corner of Bandera and Loop 410 whose name escapes me -- Firearms Plus or something like that. Hoot Gibson is the proprietor. Will talk your ear off, good guy to shoot the bull with. Much smaller than the other stores, but I found two guns there I wanted, one new, one used, and got good prices on both.

Go to all of them. Gun shopping is about the only shopping I enjoy.

Thanks very much for this thread, looking around SATX for something for my fiancee to carry.

Visited Nagel's last month. The older gentleman who waited on us was helpful and courteous.

They had Centennial Airweight to show us, only one Kahr, and no Browning P35 in stock. I can't recall whether I thought to ask about CZs.

Asking price on the Airweight was about market.

Well I have been to Dury's to get a gun worked on, the labor price was crazy. I bought a Remington 700 at the Powder Horn. First time I went in they were great, second time I don't think they knew I was there. I just got a Used Remington 1100 at Neagles on Saturday, they were fine.

Durys has a Glock 27 that I wanted but if y’all have any ideas about a better carry gun let me know. I wear a dress shirt to work tucked in every day and need something small. I want to spend less than $500, but I don't want something too small.

Also Dury's is about 5 min. from work so I can go at lunch to look around.

When I wear a dress shirt and do not need to travel to a prohibited location, I carry my M&P9c in a CTAC holster. I am waiting on a VM2 for a 1911 commander sized and then I will carry that instead.

You would be surprised at what you can conceal with a tuckable holster. So far, only one other employee has identified the CTAC while tucked.

Well, it's done. I got the Glock 27 I have been looking at. It's a little heavier than I thought, fully loaded. They did cut me a small deal over there at Dury's. I bought a holster and a box of ammo so he took $20 off the price of the gun. Not a great deal, but at least I felt like I got some value added.
