Just another commie school administrator --expected. What is truly disturbing here is the enthusiastic participation of law enforcement in an action that is closer to Soviet KGB practices than American sheriffs....though granted, this assumes Maryland is part of the US.So what did the boy say? According to his father, he neither threatened nor bullied anyone.
"He said, I wish I had a gun to protect everyone. He wanted to defeat the bad guys. That's the context of what he said," Henkelman said. "He wanted to be the hero."
The boy was questioned by the principal and a sheriff's deputy, who also wanted to search the family home without a warrant, Henkelman said. "He started asking me questions about if I have firearms, and [the deputy said] he's going to have to search my house. Search my house? I just wanted to know what happened."

This is one of the reasons I disagree with the NRA on the School Shield program. The use of police to handle minor disciplinary and/or administrative issues is becoming far too common in our schools. If the kid is being violent and a threat to others beyond what the staff can reasonably handle, then having the police involved is perfectly acceptable. But calling in the SRO just because a kid is talking in class, wearing a vulgar t-shirt, or drawing on his desk is out of line. Kids like this are too young and too easily intimiated to know and assert their Constitutional rights. Moreover, it creates the sense of the school being a police state, and it conditions the kids to be more compliant and unquestioning (i.e. not asserting their rights) once they reach adulthood. Don't get me wrong, I don't oppose having police available for schools that want and need them. I just think they should stay out of sight until there's a violent situation or a clear criminal act.VMI77 wrote:Just another commie school administrator --expected. In my day - which actually wasn't all that long ago - breaches of discipline at school were handled by the teacher or the principal on site and then later that day by the parents at home.
Oh, and I'd have told the Sheriff to roll his four-page questionnaire up into a tight little roll, cram it up where the Sun never shines and rotate on it.

In my day (graduated in 98') boys would talk about their last hunting trip in class and the teacher would ask them if they used the same rifle they did last year when he went with him and his dad. Then the teacher would tell the guy to tell his dad to call him if he wanted a hunting buddy. Then we would get on with history/english class. No one died and the slackers in the class appreciated the extra few minutes to get their homework done. When did we turn into a nation of wall flower, fainting, little girls?!

It seems like its within the last decade or so that things have really started to go rapidly downhill. I know incidents were happening in the 90's but not like they are today.mamabearCali wrote:In my day (graduated in 98') boys would talk about their last hunting trip in class and the teacher would ask them if they used the same rifle they did last year when he went with him and his dad. I'd have been more than a little concerned that my child was questioned without his parent's knowledge.
And the 4 page questionnaire? They wouldn't have had that filled out either.

Would someone please expand on "The Four Page Questionnaire"?
What's that all about?
Thanks!

No search was performed, and the deputy left Henkelman's home after the father answered questions in a four-page questionnaire issued by the Sheriff's Office.
Re: 11-Yr-Old Suspended From School For Merely TALKING About
My graduating class in 1998 consisted of 32 students, so I come from a SMALL town. Some of us used to carry pocket knives, like a little Swiss Army or Gerber, nothing big or intimidating looking. We always carried them, threw them in our pockets like wallets and keys. The thought of stabbing someone never crossed our minds. There were also probably alot of occasions where shotgun ammo was left in our vehicles after a previous afternoon of skeet shooting or bird hunting. A friend of mine actually had one of the random parking lot police dog searches get a hit on his vehicle. The principal asked him to open up the truck, he did, and the dog went for the box of ammo. They closed the truck and he went back to class, end of story.

I'm thinking some parents need to start filing some civil rights lawsuits against these pin headed educrats.

I can't remember the specific words he used, but Karl Marx once said words to the effect of "give me the control of schools for 6 years and the future of communism will be assured forever," or something like that.....K.Mooneyham wrote:It seems like its within the last decade or so that things have really started to go rapidly downhill. Private schools are the answer, leave the public schools. Your child is in danger at them, mentally and physically.

My only hope that every question on this four page questionnaire was answered with - "talk to my lawyer."clarionite wrote:Abraham wrote:Would someone please expand on "The Four Page Questionnaire"?

Re: 11-Yr-Old Suspended From School For Merely TALKING About
I have advocated for many years closing the public schools in favor of a voucher the parents can spend as they see fit, perhaps at one of the many private outfits that will spring up to offer all sorts of educational opportunities tailored to a child's wants and abilities, and without the social engineering and hoop-la of baby-sitting services and dating services.
Just think how the country would be if we closed the public schools, and the IRS, in favor of private schools and The Fair Tax!

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Maybe this one?
Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.
