Support for Our Iowa Brethern-Gov to Sign April 29!

#1

Post by mikeintexas »

Having grown up in Iowa and still having family there, there is a favor I'd like to ask of my Texas Brethern. The Governor of Iowa indicated he would sign a new concealed carry law if it was presented to him. The new law, SF 2379, if signed would change the ability of the 99 County Sheriffs from "may" issue to State of Iowa "shall" issue. The new law would also honor "all" other states concealed carry licenses, whereas now, the State of Iowa honors no other states concealed carry license. The Governor has had the bill on his desk for a couple of weeks now and if it is not signed (or vetoed) within 30 days, the bill dies. Senate File 2379 had overwhelming support for the bill in the Iowa Senate 44 Yes, 4 No. Same way in the Iowa House, 81 Yes and 15 No.

The favor I mentioned above is explained at this link: http://www.iowacarry.org/forums1/index. ... =19096&hl=. The favor I would ask of you is to e-mail Governor Chet Culver and ask that he sign Senate file 2379 to make Iowa a "shall" issue state like the Great State of Texas has been since 1996. (Without blood in the streets, incidentially!)

Governor Chet Culver's e-mail is at this link: http://www.governor.iowa.gov/index.php/ ... contact_us.
I copied and pasted some suggested text from legislative action center at iowacarry.org to send to the Governor:

"SF-2379 will provide all citizens with Iowa a fair system of administration over the Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons. Citizens who wish to defend themselves outside of the home will not be unfairly subjected to discretionary policies of any Sheriff. There will be standardized weapons training across the state, and there will be an appeals process for citizens who feel that their permits have been unfairly denied, suspended, or revoked. And, Iowa will fully comply with all Federal requirements for the sale and possession of firearms."

You can drive from Laredo to Duluth in Interstate 35 and the only place that does not honor the Texas CHL (or any other!) is Iowa. I respectfully ask your support on this. The signing of this bill will allow a leveled playing field for Iowa PTC, as well as honoring all other states concealed carry permits. The "anti's" are also putting pressure to veto or not sign the bill. I hope you will take a minute and send an e-mail of support to Governor Culver.

Mike:

I followed the link to the Governor, then clicked on "about the Governor",
then there was a "contact" the governor button.

I sent him a several paragraph missive asking him to sign it on behalf
of all law-abiding Iowans.

Glad to help.

Thanks SIA!

The guys at Iowacarry.org have really worked hard to get this passed. With the only hold up being the Governor that said he would sign if presented in question, all are nervous right now.

Thanks for your support!

Mikeintexas, I believe this to be of monumental importance to the citizens of Iowa, AND to the state of Texas and all other "shall issue states". I'll be happy to follow SIA's lead, and recommend that other forum members do the same.

I'll email the Governor and voice my support of SF-2379.

This is a worthy cause that takes very little effort on our part.

Let's try to help out those folks up there that believe as we do, shall we? :patriot:

Just sent the following email:
Gov. Culver,

I would like to encourage you to sign Senate file 2379, allowing citizens of the State of Iowa to legally carry concealed weapons outside their homes.

It has been shown time and again in State after State which allows legal concealed carry that it is beneficial to society as a whole. Violent crime, in every State (without exception) tends to decline after passage of concealed carry laws. The fears of people and groups opposed to the measure have yet to come to pass in any of the States in which concealed carry is legal.

Citizens who will undergo the measures necessary to acquire a concealed carry permit tend to be the most law abiding members of society. In fact, statistics in the State of Texas show CHL holders overall to have a lower arrest rate than police officers.

I urge you to allow Iowa citizens the rights and freedoms that citizens in 39 other States have, and ensure the ability of your citizens to protect their lives and the lives of their families.

I saw that someone had mentioned Crime Victim's Rights Week on his Facebook page.

Again, thanks to everyone that has sent e-mails and FB notes!
