I would like to be able to check them out before giving them my address as I am not a very trusting person.
You are free to:
# sell only to a CHL holder
# sell only to people you know and trust
# meet in a public place and not disclose your address
# ask an FFL to do the transfer and background check
# request the buyer provide a clean criminal background check

There is currently no legal requirement for any of this in Texas and I would like to keep it that way.

Criminals are not likely to change their behaviour after the introduction of new bureaucracy (I hesitate to say 'law',
because to a criminal a 'law' is meaning text on paper they don't read). The end result is likely no measureable
effect on crime. I find it highly unlikely your average criminal is going to hang around this or other forums in hopes
of picking up a $1000 custom 1911 for his next drive-by.

I wish folks would calm down about BHO's bit of pomp and circumstance yesterday. It meant nothing. It's what the legislators are attempting that matters. This whole thing about using FFLs to do a transfer has ZERO meaning and ZERO weight. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.
