Colorado is a shall-issue conceal-carry state. However, city councilmen have banned concealed carry in 13 Colorado cities.

These are the13 Colorado cities that ban concealed carry:

Aurora, Boulder, Broomfield, Colorado Springs, Denver, Englewood, Lakewood, Littleton, Longmont, Northglenn, Pueblo, Thornton, Westminster, Wheat Ridge

And only one city in the entire state has banned having a loaded gun in your car:

That city is Aurora.

So, Colorado may have what some call lax gun laws, but in this case the bad guy made sure he picked the ONE CITY in all of Colorado where he could be almost 100-percent sure that he would not be faced by a good guy permitted to carry a concealed weapon who could have brought him down. All that these heavy gun laws do is keep the guns in the hands of the bad guys and out of the hands of the good ones. Something to think about.
Doesn't Colorado have state preemption?
I believe it does indeed have pre-emption. However, from what I gathered looking around at the 'Net last night, those towns are still very gun-UN-friendly and those ordinances are indicative of that attitude, enforceable or not.

A search of Denver City ordinances ( I still have family and friends there so started my search with that city)

Shows that the most recent ordinance passed on concealed carry
http://www.denvergov.org/web/candr/City ... 469ord.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Affirms the right to carry concealed as long as you are licensed to do so... as best as I can understand the document anyway.

I could find no ordinances that forbid concealed carry..for the city of Denver.

Nor did I find any such city ordinance in Aurora

http://library.municode.com/showDocumen ... d=&docID=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Again, the City ordnance seems to affirm the legal carry of a concealed firearm when properly licensed.

Not that I disbelieve you, but I want to post this to FB...and there are a few non-believers out there who will say it, so I'll cut them off: what is the source for this info? That way, I can post a link and shut them up before they even start running their yaps...thanks in advance...and I'm NOT surprised in the least.
Here's a couple of links:
http://www.coloradoceasefire.org/munilaws.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (this site is pro gun control and claims a 12+ cities, including Aurora, have CCW bans)

However, at this link it seems to contradict itself: http://www.coloradoceasefire.org/Col-state.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
May police limit carrying concealed handguns? No
May cities enact laws stronger than the state's? No

Colorado - State law prohibits local governments from enacting sensible gun laws, even though the state's gun laws are weak and make it easy for criminals and children to get guns. In 2003, the state preempted local laws and overturned existing local laws in several cities, some of those cities are pursuing legal action to reinstate the local laws.

Along with these instructions, specific to the City and County of Denver, follow the above links.
Though the page was updated 2012, every link I click on there under Instructions for Obtaining a Concealed Handgun Permit gives a 404 error page not found; I figured their info packet might be like ours with laws etc

Okay, so perusing that bill referenced on the Colorado state website, it seems that they USED to have a patchwork of laws. The former Republican governor signed a bill into law pre-empting all of that. However, is it possible that some of those towns are still anti-firearms? I'd say possible, but its NOT LEGAL for them to "run you in" if you simply carry concealed with the proper permit.

Here is something you may want to post on FB:
Crime vs Gun Ownership
http://www.datamasher.org/mash-ups/crim ... ip#map-tab" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The most violent country in Europe: Britain is also worse than South Africa and U.S.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... a-U-S.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
There is so much obfuscation when it comes to the topic of gun ownership & crime; & google certainly tries its best to keep it that way. I havent checked the figures but they do seem to be consistent with what I have read.

I've read the above responses and finds it confusing as I imagine any citizen would.

As far as the "gun control" issue is defined, isn't the theatre a co-hort in this mess?

Doesn't the theatre post "no weapons/no guns" type signage that has to be followed regardless of the local or state restrictions?

While governments intrusion into gun rights is generally on the heavy-handed side, the theatre has almost absolute power when it comes to regulating guns on their premises.

Yeah, I know about property rights, but with those rights comes responsibility....responsibility to provide an substitute, but equal level of protection?

That gunman knew there would be no possible way for anyone to fight back.....If he'd thought differently, we may not have this thread to comment on.

There is no equal level of protection other than having multiple armed LEO / security in each theater. A few individuals leagally carrying on that night may or may not of made a difference, we will never know for sure. It would have been something to see if this guy had made his entrance and immeadiatly got lighted up with laser sites.

If one single life would have been saved by return fire, just one, or maybe one shooting surviver not have to go through the mending process. Thats what the cities, business owners, and anti's should be asking themselves today.
