A one note memo from Obama to Merkel would fix this:

"If you prosecute this montanan for defending his home from one of your ill-behaved brats, we'll pull all of our troops out of your country tomorrow, and you can just defend yourselves."

The PS should read:

"Good luck with that socialism thing once you have to start paying for your own defense."

We invaded a country and took their Pres. away in chains for violations of US law but the idea that German law allows it to prosecute a crime against their citizens that happen out of the county is some big deal? Just stay out of Germany after killing a German and move on. Their courts can do whatever they want it has no bearing on this case or what the US courts do.
I believe it is a big deal, no country should dictate anything to us. I believe it always depends on who can whup whom. We can whup the Panamanians and most everyone else we choose, at least currently. We did and still can whup the Germans, IMO I don't care what they or any other Country thinks, especially European. It angers me to no end to hear our Nation's leadership worry about what England and the rest of Europe thinks and does. If Montana finds this Gentleman guilty of a crime, then Montana will take care of the problem, we are still the Alpha Dog. :patriot:
So it's OK if they could whup us? All he has to do is stay out of germany and it's no problem. Guess what we have done the same thing. The US has prosecuted people for actions taken outside of our borders. They wouldn't be dictating anything by prosecuting this guy just classifying him as a criminal if he goes where they have legal jurisdiction. So? It doesn't mandate that Montana do anything. Your description makes The US the fat drunk at the bar who can do anything he wants but no body else better step out of line else they'll get whupped. That isn't what I want my America to be.

That would require a president with, well, something Obama is missing. :biggrinjester:

Well, turns out, whatever the Germans think, it doesn't look like a good shoot.

Apparently this guy and his gf set a trap with bait....wired their garage with motion sensors and video.....and left the garage door open with the gf's purse as bait after telling a witness he waited up at night to shoot burglars. He probably won't fare well with a jury even in Montana.

Seems like a self correcting problem with purse thieves...or maybe I'm missing something.

I don't advocate the means...but still.

I don't disagree, but I do think expressing the desire to shoot someone before the fact, then setting a trap and doing it, isn't going to play well with a lot of people, and isn't a particularly smart move. OTOH, you should be able to leave a purse in your own open garage without someone stealing it, and it's a thin line between baiting and just leaving a purse in your garage. He might be OK if he hadn't professed his intention to shoot someone before the fact, and didn't saying anything about using bait.

whats wrong with setting traps, ever heard of "bait cars". No one forced the thief, I mean poor innocent young student, to enter the garage.

In one instance a person is setup to be arrested; in the other setup to be killed. Sanctity of life is the bed rock of our justice system.

Because they aren't cops.
