Although I like Cruz on (the lack of ) gun control, his moves here have been epically stupid, and seemingly almost designed to lose the Republican's chance to regain the Senate and keep the house.

If you think Obamacare is bad, let it be implemented and put it around the neck of the Democrats. Take the Senate and pass legislation to end it or improve. But remember if you end it, there was a reason people initially supported it, and you'd better have a good plan to replace it with something better. Leaving alone isn't working.

If you crater the government over this the Republicans can and should lose both houses for a decade.
Once something like this gets fully in place it takes a monumental effort to remove it, if it can be removed at all. Better to fight it tooth & nail then to even tacitly sign on to it. The bigger problem for us is that if Cornyn does go Robert the Bruce on Cruz, it puts us in an awful bind. If we take out Cornyn in a republican primary, it would leave Texas without a senior senator. Without Cornyn's seniority as cover, Cruz would have to dial it down quite a bit.

You should not risk the country over this. Its a side issue that should be addressed via normal means.
Republicans can and will be punished for doing so, thats why Cornyn and other Republicans are splitting from the junior senator. They don't want to sink the party just at the time they are gaining traction on issues and able to make inroads or retake the Senate.
Obama is lighting a fat Cuban and just laughing at Cruz handing hi this issue.
Risk the country...really? What is at risk? You realize that the line item budget trick has gone before right? Via Newt. The sky didn't fall then, and those on the government's collective "nursing" still got their handouts. No critical infrastructure went unsupported...

But politicians on both sides of the isle sure did play nice for years to come. Oh and I'm a young 31, but remember my history. No disrespect for the elderly from me.
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. - Thomas Edison

The vote isn't going to be of much use when the bank accounts go dry because leviathan defaults. Voting does not ease hunger pains or pay the electric bill or rent.

Answer the question. What would you do with all the senior citizens currently on Medicare?

Not seeing a viable challenger to Cornyn right now though.

The Democrats are grooming that gal, but I think they are positioning her to take a run at the governor.

A government that passes legislation such as Obamacare should be shut down.

Basic common sense and elementary math says we can't continue on the course we are headed.

Wendy Davis is DOA in any statewide political race. I hope she's the candidate for Senator or Governor. BTW, I want Cornyn reelected. We don't need two Senators with no seniority or power.

So you have a craving for living in Somalia then? A short term shut down is humorous. A long term shutdown means the economy will make the Great Depression look like the Golden Age.

You think the track we are on will lead to anything different? Have you ever heard of anyone being able to borrow themselves out of debt? Hyperbole andemotional based decisions are what's lead us to where we are and where we are headed.

Wake up. When the country is bankrupt there will be no Medicare. Look at Detroit. All the city retirees (police, fire, sanitation, etc.) are getting their retirements cut by 75%. Are they screwed? Of course! Is there anything they can do about it? Not one thing. When the money runs out all the Medicare in the world won't write a check. Vote all you want. The gravy train is coming to an end. And in case you think I'm some youngster who hates old people, I'm 66, on social security and medicare. I'm just not blind to the tsunami headed our way.

Either the politicians put an end to deficit spending now, or your Medicare card and 2 dollars will get you a cup of coffee.

I am only responsible for me and mine. Those totally dependent on the government must deal with it.

What are you going to do? Print more fake money and give it to them?

Social Security was not intended to be the total solution for retirement. Medicare is the same way. All of the big government programs have been ballooned to include all of the lazy leeches who do not want to work.

The government IS going to fail.

We're screwed by Obamacare anyway. What difference does it make? When they run out of money we'll be the first to be discarded.

You're on your own now, just like our forefathers.

Agreed on the Cornyn part for those exact reasons. I fear the Cruz may have screwed the pooch a little with the other Republicans in the Senate (I guess Democrats as well) as he's not a senior member and made some waves.

I'm interested in your reasoning on why you think Davis (why does my head say Brown when I type that - yikes) won't take a statewide race?
If this isn't appropriate for the thread we can take private.

I could balance the budget without getting rid of Medicare.

Wendy Davis is as anti-2A as they come.

at this point I have to disagree Mr Cotton, If Cornyn pulls this, we don't need Senators like him representing Texas....he's "compromised" too many times and we've let him get away with it because we "need seniority". I don't think Cruz has "no" power, look at how he has turned that place upside-down  he's awesome, and he's just a jr senator!
