Cornyn and McConnell Will Not Back Ted Cruz

Cornyn and McConnell show true colors.

Cornyn needs to go.

Forever.

A spokeswoman for McConnell’s top lieutenant, Minority Whip John Cornyn of Texas, said that Cornyn too will break with Cruz and Lee.

Although I like Cruz on (the lack of ) gun control, his moves here have been epically stupid, and seemingly almost designed to lose the Republican's chance to regain the Senate and keep the house.

If you think Obamacare is bad, let it be implemented and put it around the neck of the Democrats. Take the Senate and pass legislation to end it or improve. But remember if you end it, there was a reason people initially supported it, and you'd better have a good plan to replace it with something better. Leaving alone isn't working.

If you crater the government over this the Republicans can and should lose both houses for a decade.

Correction. Yes, they can lose both houses...but they definitely should not! They would not deserve to lose both houses, but polls do indicate that does have a chance of happening.

Once something like this gets fully in place it takes a monumental effort to remove it, if it can be removed at all. Better to fight it tooth & nail then to even tacitly sign on to it. The bigger problem for us is that if Cornyn does go Robert the Bruce on Cruz, it puts us in an awful bind. If we take out Cornyn in a republican primary, it would leave Texas without a senior senator. Without Cornyn's seniority as cover, Cruz would have to dial it down quite a bit.

Once the ACA is fully implemented it will be nearly impossible to repeal. Evidence SS, Medicare, Food Stamps, Welfare, Dept of Education, etc.
All this talk about the "blame for a government shutdown" is such bile it's hard to contain my disgust.
Obamacare is so bad, it's worth a shutdown. If avoiding a shut down means that a few more RINO's can get elected, well, are we really that much better off?

You should not risk the country over this. Its a side issue that should be addressed via normal means.
Republicans can and will be punished for doing so, thats why Cornyn and other Republicans are splitting from the junior senator. They don't want to sink the party just at the time they are gaining traction on issues and able to make inroads or retake the Senate.
Obama is lighting a fat Cuban and just laughing at Cruz handing hi this issue.

That's crazy talk. The last time the Republicans shut down the government the Democrats were within a hair's breadth of caving when the Republicans did what they do best - surrender unconditionally. The polls say the people do not want Obamacare. If the Republicans cave (and there's a high likelihood they will), they will be blamed for Obamacare when it brings this nation crashing down to disaster because they did not fight to stop it. People will say the Democrats had no choice. They had to support their President.

Their only chance of winning in the future is to fight tooth and nail now. Even if they lose the fight, people will not then blame them for the disaster that is Obamacare. If they cave to the Democrats now, they will disappear as a viable party. I guarantee you the Tea Party folks will not support them going forward, and without the Tea Party they are not a viable party, no matter what Karl Rove and his ilk say.

This is the Republicans last stand. It looks like they don't have the courage to fight, which is normal for them.

Apparently you haven't noticed that we're broke? You're living in a dream world where everything will go on as it always has. This country is collapsing, and it's only a matter of time before it's every man for himself. Medicare? In your dreams! Medicare should be the least of your worries. Start thinking about where your next meal will come from after the country goes bankrupt.

The country is not just at risk, as you put it, but on the road to massive failure from the debt load. Wake up! Even without barrycare the debt from all of the so called entitlement programs are not funded. We borrow money from China and give it away. Then we borrowe money from Chine to pay the debt. The fed reserve just keeps printing billions every month diluting the dollar. Runaway inflation is on the horizon.

Keep burying your head in the sand.

Shutting down the government would be the best thing to happen in history. I am all for it. It is timew for the leviathan to cease to exist.

Fine by me. If the Republicans want to consign themselves to the wilderness go ahead. I'm a throw all the incumbents out kind of guy.

So what happens to all the old farts who are on Medicare if things went your way then? Going to stick them on an igloo and push them out to sea? Mind you...they vote.

The vote isn't going to be of much use when the bank accounts go dry because leviathan defaults. Voting does not ease hunger pains or pay the electric bill or rent.

Like him or not, agree with him or not, the simple fact is Cruz is not selling well nationwide. I'm a staunch conservative and I wish those of like mind were in the majority. We are not; most Americans who vote consider themselves moderates and vote accordingly. I think Cornyn may have just cost himself the election, but Texas is not a good barometer for the rest of the country.
