"With our concealed handgun license, if you go through the process and you have been duly backgrounded and trained and you are a concealed handgun licensed-carrying individual, you should be able to carry your handgun anywhere in this state," Perry said.

He's very serious. He said the same thing after the Virginia Tech shooting in 2007.

Make sure and write him and your state reps emails. Its easy if you use the NRA ILA website. I sent emails to everyone it poped up for my zip code except obama.

We are talking about Texas and not Wash. DC. We have the most conservative State Govt. I'm just as jaded as the next guy, but we have some very serious issues with misinformation campaigns taking place here and we are too quick to jump on the "Throw 'em all out" bandwagon. Is Perry my favorite politician....hell no! However he is mo better than many others. We must be diligent in winning the small battles along the way and eventually we will win the war.

I was present at the meeting where he said this and watched the TV reporters ask him about it afterward. I'm not a fan of everything that he does but he is very courageous to make remarks like this in public now. All of the major TV stations in the area were present for his speech so he knew that they were going to pick up on it. He was completely unabashed in his support of CHL.
What I found interesting was the fact that he spoke a lot about attracting new businesses and jobs to Texas, the 2013 Legislative session and other things and what everyone has focused in on was his gun and CHL related remarks. While they were important, they were not the major time slots for what he had to say.
The Tea Party group that hosted Gov. Perry has been highly critical of some of the positions that he has taken. There was, however, a standing ovation for him when he arrived and when he left. The strongest applause from the audience and the newly elected State representatives from North Texas who were all present was when Gov. Perry spoke about the 2nd Amendment.
