She's only breeding because the government does not force churches to pay for birth control and abortions. :nono:

I know that had to have been said in jest. She can get free birth control and abortions without going through her church.

To be honest, I wasn't sure at first if it was a "her" and not a "he."

There is no guaranteed right to intelligence but as we all know and understand, there are many who thrive on as much stupidity as they can get.

Ok.. since this thread is so far off track anyways...

How do you "fix" stupid voters?

The Constitution gave voting rights to White, Male, Property Owners. Of course we know that's not right. So, drop the "white" and the "male"... Then what? Replace "Property Owners" with.....?

Did the founding fathers correctly intend for only those who pay in (yes, I know federal taxation came later, but, in a sense, land ownership is an investment in the country and its government) to vote? What would be an equivalent measure to assure that people cannot vote themselves government benefits without being on the roles of those who pay for said benefits.?

Rather than fixing who can vote, would it be easier to implement a simple flat tax and put the reins on government spending as some percentage of GDP? Vote yourself whatever you want, as long as the size of government bears a reasonable extraction from the overall economy? That would leave folks forced to make choices in lean times, and to grow "benefits" (transfer payments and redistribution) during fat times.

:confused5 :confused5
Democracy: a government of the masses. Authority derived thru mass meeting or any other form of direct expression. Results in Mobacracy. Attitude toward property is communist - negating property rights. Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether it be based upon deliberation or governed by passion. prejudice and impulse without restraint or regard to consequences. Results in demogogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.

Republic: Authority is derived thru the election by the people of public officials best fitted to represent them. Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with a strict regard to consequences. A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass. Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobacracy. Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment and progress. Is the standard form of government throughout the world.

Benjamin Franklin: When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

I think my first choice is one flat tax rate for everyone, or a national sales tax with no income tax at all.

I think a flat tax on income more than, say, $10k or $20k would be an easier sell. For reference, 2012 HHS poverty threshold is $11,170 for a household of one, and $23,050 for four. So, maybe the first 90% of the income required to get you to your poverty threshold is tax-free, and above that all income above that is taxed at, say, 10%? Honestly, if it'd get our national debt paid down, I wouldn't even mind going to 15% on income above $250k or $500k (oh, or 25x or 50x your poverty threshold?).

Regarding going into debt in the first place, maybe require a national vote to allow the government to be more than 10% of our GDP in the red? Dunno... the government needs to be able to borrow in emergencies; but if you just say that they can't borrow, except for emergencies, congress will find a way to declare a national toe-nail clipping emergency and spend whatever they want anyway.

Everyone, no matter what their income level, should pay taxes if they work and have income.

I do not propose fixing stupid since that is not possible. I do want to stop rewarding stupid.

No longer rewarding stupid will stop enabling the perpetual welfare state.

I agree, but I don't think enough people see it like this for us to have much of a chance of getting it through.

I'm not sure there is a way to fix this mess. The proper thing would be to cut off all the handouts to the freeloaders. Now, don't jump on me, I'm not talking about folks who worked and earned it, not talking about those in advance years who can no longer help themselves, and I'm not talking about those who will NEVER be able to help themselves. BUT, the only way to make a system like that work is to have a PROPERLY educated population, and by that, I mean not having our school systems, from elementary school up through our universities, run by socialists and other leftists. THAT is where this problem lies, our schools...and that turns right around to the voters again, which is why I'm not sure it can be fixed. Ol' Karl must really be cackling in the fires of Hades.
