TSA Threatens to Shut Down All Texas Air Travel

Post by Kythas »

The TSA threatened to shut down all Texas airports if the Texas Senate passed the "TSA Groping" bill. The Senate backed down.

Does that mean the bill is dead? The article said somebody withdraw the bill, but I don't know if that kills it, or just means the somebody else has to resubmit it, or something else. :headscratch

It's too bad the senate backed down, though. I'm fairly convinced that someday there will be a "showdown" over the TSA's procedures, and I'd much rather see it played out on CSPAN than some airport saftey special report aired by the evening news.

I'm disappointed (not surprised) but disappointed in our legislature for backing down. Passing that is *exactly* what Texas should do, and it's *exactly* what my view of Texas is... the leave us the heck alone, "Come and Take It" attitude.

I wish we could have displayed that again on this issue. Go ahead, shut down the airports... that political ripple would have been nighmarish and could be exactly what we need in this country in terms of telling the Feds where to go. Can you imagine the impact on all business, world-wide, if Texans couldn't fly? It wouldn't take much more than an hour of that to bring this issue to a head.

:iagree: Now, for the record, was the Texas statute going to be in conflict with Federal LAW or Federal POLICY? There is a difference. I haven't followed what TSA has been doing to determine if the specifics of its actions were spelled out by the Congress or whether TSA was making up and acting upon its own procedures. If it is procedure, it is driven from the Executive branch and, as far as I understand, they enforce law but they cannot make it.

Of course, the same could be said about the Judiciary and you see how well we are doing with that. :banghead:

I believe it would properly be called The Republic of Texas.
