Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
I am new to Texas and am utterly flabbergasted by the inability of Texans to OC. My entire life, I was fed an image of Texas that was literally larger than life. Never in a million years would I have thought that the state of Texas would have such restrictive gun laws. I know you Texans have enormous pride in your state and I certainly see why. This is a GREAT state and I and my son love being stationed here. I just struggle to reconcile the image of Texas outside of the state with reality( of your gun laws)I have been faced with since moving here.
It is my sincere desire to understand how a state such as TEXAS does not allow OC. When I found out I would be stationed in Texas I was very happy. I hope Texans will be pleased to know that the legend of Texas looms very large in those of use who have never lived here. And except for your restrictive gun laws I love being stationed here. The people are great, the area is great, and the the history of your state in relation to the American experience is unparalleled.
But I still struggle with being in Texas and not allowed to OC. Of all the states in the great 50, I truly never believed this state of all of them would not allow OC.
I would ask that anyone with a coherent basis for why OC is not allowed in this great state to respond.

It would help to know where you moved from, because I came here from California; and by California standards, Texas' gun laws are very libertarian. No, we don't have OC here, but we do have a more pro-gun environment than many other states, so things are not all black and white. You make it sound we are very restrictive. We actually are not, compared to a lot of other states. It is really more a matter of degree. Ask anyone from New York State, or Washington, DC if they think Texas' gun laws are restrictive.

Please read this article and all the footnotes: http://www.guncite.com/journals/haltex.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
When you have done that, please name the five people who can veto a bill in the Texas Legislature without signing their name to a document.

Your cite makes absolutely no sense to me. I asked for a historical perspective as to why Texas doesn't allow OCseamusTX wrote:Please read this article and all the footnotes: http://www.guncite.com/journals/haltex.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
That is still a relative matter. Compared to Arizona or Vermont, where no license is required even for concealed carry, Kentucky has restrictive gun laws, because Kentucky requires a permit to carry concealed. Do you see what I mean? So you're beating up on Texas, but you home state's laws are not ideal compared to Arizona or Vermont.cwohardy wrote:I am from KENTUCKY so yes the Texas laws are quite restrctive
And coming from the other direction, like I said, compared to California, Texas is gun paradise. Again, it is not black and white.

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
I speculate, The reason why OC is banned in TX is that if allowed with license or without license, people my get scared and call the cops for man with gun acting suspiciously. LEO would be diverted where no crime was commited. We carry concealed with a License, if made out, we are still protected and let go. BGs can surely carry Mexican Style or in their baggies' cavities. When busted, they are in real deep poo poo.

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
I would bet that concealed carry license holders in Texas have a lot more freedom of where they can carry than those in Kentucky. Maybe that would be a good place to start the discussion, rather than an abraisive issue that's been beat to death, over and over, redundantly, again and again........
but that's just my opinion

I don't have to read it slowly to understand that TEXANS CANNOT CARRY OPENLY. My question is why?seamusTX wrote:Please read it more slowly so that you understand it.cwohardy wrote:Your cite makes absolutely no sense to me.

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
mr surveyor, first let me thank you for you reasoned response. I would respond that it doesn't matter where or where not you can CC in KY or Texas, in KY you can OC and TX you can't. My whole post is geared toward why Texas does not allow OC. I am an absolutest when it comes to my right to bear arms and can't understand why the state of Texas does not allow OC.mr surveyor wrote:I would bet that concealed carry license holders in Texas have a lot more freedom of where they can carry than those in Kentucky. Again, thank you for an on-topic relevant response!

Re: Why is OC not allowed in Texas?
I don't believe I am beating up Texas in that I am asking why Texas doesn't allow OC. KY does allow OC, Texas doesn't and CC laws are irrelevant to me in that I am from a state that not only ALLOWS OC but FORBIDS local laws concerning firearms to preempt state laws. KY allows OC and that is all I care about.The Annoyed Man wrote:That is still a relative matter. I do see your point but again I could CARE LESS ABOUT CC laws. I believe the 2nd Amendment gives us the right to bear arms however we choose. Yes I am disappointed that KY chooses to regulate CC and I am activate in the movement to change those laws.
AGAIN. MY QUESTION IS does anyone have a historical perspective on why Texas does not allow OC?
