"Culver still has several more bills to sign — including a controversial one that changes the concealed weapons law. He is not saying what he plans to do with that bill. Culver says he is taking one bill at a time and will continue to meet his responsibility to sign the bills and when he makes the final decision on those bills he will hold a ceremony and let everyone know where he stands."

Quote from Iowa Carry.org today:

"IT IS OFFICIAL!
According to a report published just a very short time ago on Radio Iowa, Governor Culver WILL be signing SF-2379 into law on Thursday, April 29 at 9:00 am. There are no details yet as to the type of signing ceremony that he will hold, but the report says that he will in fact sign the legislation.

The article can be found at http://www.radioiowa.com/2010/04/26/gov ... -into-law/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We will publish more information as we get it.

Thank you to everyone who made the effort to contact the Governor's office to support this legislation.

JOB WELL DONE!"

It appears that Governor Culver of Iowa will be signing SF-2379 this week! Thanks to all who contacted the Governor's office in support of this bill! It won't be in effect until Jan 1, 2011, but Iowa will become another state that we can legally carry, or anyone with a CHL from their state through the universal acceptance of any state issued concealed carry permit!

It's just a shame it won't be in effect until after we visit Mom and Dad this summer!

I e-mailed telling him to read your excellent e-mail, so ... :mrgreen:

No, seriously, I just asked him to let me know when it would be safe to visit because I wasn't coming to his fine state until it was signed, then I'll bring my tourist dollars ;-) RECOGNITION: Out-of-state residents with a valid permit in their home state can carry in Iowa.

However, I'm getting a 404 dead link at ....The article can be found at ...... above link

So try these

Most News posts are favorable, but some like this are ANTI- http://www.thehawkeye.com/story/Conceal ... ons-043010" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm amused by this quote :
"I'm all for Second Amendment rights, I have no problem with that," Johnstone said. "But when you literally take all discretion away, there will be people who will be carrying who should not be. We won't have the adequate ability to prevent someone who is mentally ill from getting a permit."

SINCE THIS IS THE POLITICAL FORUM:Lets substitute another word to see that sheriff's logic
"I'm all for FIFTEENTH Amendment rights, I have no problem with that," Johnstone said. "But when you literally take all discretion away, there will be people who will be VOTING who should not be. We won't have the adequate ability to prevent someone who is XXXXXXXXX from VOTING."

That was the last of the Jim Crow laws in Iowa,” said Glen McCannon, an Aurelia resident who belongs to the grassroots gun group Iowa Carry.
The current law has origins to the 1910s during a KKK resurgence in Iowa, he said.
“They passed this law so they could legally deny guns to blacks,” McCannon said.
